Nicolas Cage Suggests Insect Consumption Could Solve World Starvation

During an interview withEntertainment Weekly,the cast ofRenfielddiscussed eating real insects while filming the movie.Nicholas Hoult, who played the titular character in the movie, shared that the best thing he ate was crickets, saying that they were“like smoky bacon flavor and salt and vinegar.”

The conversation ledNicolas Cageto share the benefits of eating insects. The 59-year-old actor stated how insect consumption can help solve the major global crisis of starvation, stating that “they’re just abundant, they’re everywhere.”

Nicolas Cage took some extreme steps for his 1988 filmVampire’s Kiss.One of the scenes of the movie features him eating a cockroach after he starts believing that he is turning into a vampire. While the original scene of the film required him to swallow a raw egg, the actor reportedly insisted on eating a cockroach to shock the audience.

“I saw it as a business decision because when people see the cockroach go in my mouth… [they] really react,”he shared in the film’s DVD commentary track. However, he does not seem interested in following up with the practice anymore, as he shared,“I’ve learned to move on from that.”The actor recalled the experience in anotherinterview, as he called it a traumatizing experience and said that he does not want to do anything like that ever again.
