Even though theAssassin’s Creedseries won’t have anew installment in 2019, it seems like we now know where the globe-trotting and time traveling franchise will go next.
As first noticed earlier this week by YouTube channelJorRaptor, a poster within Ubisoft’s recently released shooterThe Division 2has essentially teased whereAssassin’s Creedwill be headed. The poster, which you can find scattered about in various spots of the game’s open world of Washington D.C. shows a character holding what looks to be a Piece of Eden, the iconic items that have long been involved in theACfranchise. Above this character on the poster is the word “Valhalla” which is a location involved with Norse mythology and typically associated with Viking culture.
While this seems pretty telling in its own right,Kotakuhas added even more credibility to this notion. In a new report published earlier today, the publication has said that two separate sources have confirmed that next year’sAssassin’s Creedgame will involve Vikings. Kotaku learned of this information months ago before this poster ever appeared inThe Division 2. In addition, the codename for this newAssassin’s CreedVikings title isKingdom. No other specific details about the project are currently known other than the setting.
It should come as no surprise that Ubisoft has also declined to comment on the nature of this leak, but it’s worth noting that the publisher has previously included teases to other forthcoming projects in previous games. Ubisoft’ssci-fi gamePioneerwas originally teased in 2016’sWatch Dogs 2and while that game never released (or hasn’t yet) it was still an active project at the company at the time.
While it’ll likely be quite a bit longer until we hear about this newAssassin’s Creedtitle, the idea of it involving Vikings sounds pretty great to me. IlovedAssassin’s Creed Odysseyand the thought of a new entry taking place in yet another locale which would seem to offer quite a bit of sailing around to different areas sounds rad. I have my doubts that Ubisoft would opt to lift the veil on this new entry this summer duringits E3 2019 showcase, but now I’m really hoping it makes an appearance.
