Themysterious chestonPokémon’sofficial Website has opened, and the answer to its contents is proving a lot of people right. While some argued whether this would be a new monster coming to the soon-to-be-releasedPokémon Scarlet and Violetor a feature for Pokémon Go, and others thought it may be tied to thecoin Pokémonuncovered by data miners, the correct answer turned out to be “Yes to all.”
Dubbed Gimmighoul, the new Ghost type features in anew traileron the chest’s former corner of the Pokemon Website. The trailer includes backstory for Gimmighoul through an illustrated fairy tale book, spinning a story of a little creature that manipulates a girl to fill a chest with 999 coins, although its reason still isn’t clear.
The trailer opens up as Professor Willow from Pokémon Go has a conversation with Scarlet and Violet’s Jacq, who serves as the players' homeroom teacher, and it quickly shows the little creature appearing in both the Switch and mobile phone Pokémon titles. Willow ponders whether the treasure chest is actually a part of Gimmighoul’s body, while Jacq confirms that in the Paldea region, some hide in chests and others are found out in the open. Apparrently, he says, “No one’s ever caught a Gimmighoul that’s not in a chest,” as each has been known to drop a coin as it flees, although Willow hints they won’t behave that way in Pokémon Go.

In Scarlet and Violet, it seems the ones in chests will not be able to move about the world. This has led to the naming of two different forms: Chest Form and Roaming Form. However, Pokémon Go players who have picked up special coins will likely see them tagging along.
Dataminers earlier this weekend had already leaked the existence of Gimmighoul, though Nintendo was still able to keep some details — like its name, its penchant for dropping coins, and its in-chest form — under wraps until the intended release time.
The official Pokémon YouTube channel has also released asecond, much shorter, trailerintroducing Gimmighoul, confirming its singular Ghost typing. Along with thereveal of the dog-like Greavardin late October, this is the second Ghost-type Pokémon that Nintendo has revealed in a row. It will be interesting to see what other tactics Nintendo uses to leak more information on the new creatures coming our way before Pokémon Scarlet and Violet releases for the Switch on November 18.
