While sports games are usually replaced by publishers with the latest iteration like clockwork every year, it’s not fair to assume that gamers snap up every year’s entry as well. For those still playingNBA 2K23on consoles and PC, Visual Concepts has confirmed that the basketball sim’s servers are going offline and the move is happening soon.

In an announcement on the2K Support board, 2K mentioned that the NBA 2K23 servers will “sunset” (a term used when a game is about to wind down its services) on July 29, 2025. This means the sports game’s online component will be inaccessible in less than 24 months! NBA 2K23 will also be removed from storefronts and unavailable for purchase from June 28, 2025.

NBA 2K23 Players Will Lose Access To Several Game Modes

With the game’s servers shutting down in December, players will not be able to play online games. This will also affect MyCareer and MyTeam modes, as these will be completely unavailable come December 31. Players won’t be able to download roster updates and even community-created players. However, NBA 2K23’s offline modes, which include Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA, will still be playable.

NFL & NBA Games Need To Go Back To The Streets

Swap stadiums and arenas for blacktops and backyards.

While I understand that sports games are usually replaced by fans every year once a new version is out, some still tend to stick around the old games and just apply roster updates—especially if the most recent iteration of the game doesn’t have any substantial new features.

There is no word yet on how long the NBA 2K24 servers will be around, but don’t be surprised ifthey shut down by the end of 2025. As for the latest entry in the sports franchise, read on for our sister siteHardcore Gamer’s review, which states, “NBA 2K25 is a lot of fun and a great basketball experience to play with friends and experience the current and past NBA.”
