Hunters inMonster Hunter Wildsare only as good as their equipment skills. Each weapon and armor piece in the game has a unique skill attached to it that grants various buffs, such as increased attack power and elemental damage, bigger evade windows, and much more.

While most skills are great at the base level, upgrading them is crucial to make a hunter as strong as possible. Unfortunately,Monster Hunter Wildsdoesn’t explain very well how to upgrade them, possibly leaving the player confused.

How to Upgrade Weapon Skills

Upgrading weapon skills follows the same principle as armor, but it’s a little different.

There are two ways to upgrade weapon skills: by stacking decorations or upgrading the weapon itself.

Players will need toadd decorationswith the same skill as their weapon in order to upgrade it to level 2. Adding the same skill as your primary to your secondary weapon won’t upgrade it, since they have to be on the same weapon.

Players can also stack decorations if a weapon has more than one decoration slot to upgrade the skill level even further. Keep in mind that some weapons don’t have multiple slots.

How to Check Equipment Skill Level

Checking the overall level of your equipment skills can be pretty confusing inMonster Hunter Wilds.

Hovering over a weapon while on the equipment page will only show the default skill level of the weapon. However, if youselect “Skill Info"at the bottom of the screen or simply bring up the Main Menu, then it will show the current overall skill level.

Once you reach High Rank after completingthe main story, there’ll be way more opportunities to get gear with multiple decoration slots, and the majority of High Rank weapons can be upgraded.

While having stronger skills during the story is helpful, it’s not the most important thing. The real challenge beginsat the endgame, so I wouldn’t focus too much on upgrading equipment skills until you reach that point.
