Monster Hunter Wildsis the first game in the series that allows players tobring multiple weaponson their quests. It’s a cool feature and gives hunters options without requiring a trip back to camp.

It is also a mechanic that brings extra depth to hunts, and while asecond weapon is purely optional, it may become a big deal when more dangerous quests are added to the game.

mh wilds bow and dual blades

I want to stress thatyou can bring any pair of weapons you like. I beat the entire game with justa Greatsword, so don’t feel like you’re forced to build multiple items. That said, if you’re looking for inspiration on what to bring, I’ve got you covered.

7Bow + Dual Blades

Never Stop Moving

The Bow and Dual Blades make a fantastic, high DPS combinationfor players who enjoy a busy playstyle.

The Dual Blades are perfect for a hunter who enjoys their encounters up close and personal. you’re able to adopt ahigh-risk mindset, vying to defeat your targets by slashing them to ribbons. You can swap to your bow if you’re getting too close for comfort.

mh wilds lance and glaive

Keep in mind thatthe Bows effective range is pretty short, but it feels exceptionally lenient coming from blades with such stubby reach.

Both weapons reward players who can dance around the map, seeking and exploiting openings.

mh wilds hammer and horn

Another great thing about this combo is that severalEquipment Skillsbenefit both weapons. The Bow and Dual Blades arehungry for Stamina, and you can patch up that weakness with skills like Constitution or Stamina Surge.

you may even go down the Elemental route, as they are both rapid-hitting weapons that can pile on Elements and Status effects like few others can.

6Lance + Insect Glaive

For The Showoffs

I admire Capcom for putting equal effort into every weapon type, even if they are rarely used. On that note, I always respect players who useunusual weapons, as they are often skilled veterans.

If that sounds like you (or you just want to look the part), why not rock the Lance and Insect Glaive? The Lance is a unique weapon tailor-made for keen-eyed hunters who can get in close andstick to their targetslike glue.

mh wilds longsword and hammer

Your opponents will meet a grisly end as you poke them to death, but sometimes, you’ll meet opponents who are too quick for comfort. If that happens, you may swap to the Insect Glaive, one of themost mobile weaponsin the entire game.

The Glaive is a technical choice, as you must also manage a Kinsect, and it fills an entirely different niche to the Lance if you’re struggling with it. Honestly, both weapons are nuanced and require playstyles you won’t find with other tools.

If you prefer the path less traveled, this combo is for you.

5Hammer + Hunting Horn

The KO Kings

Few things inMonster Hunterare more satisfying than knocking a monster to the canvas with awell-placed wallop to the chin.

If you want to unleash your inner pugilist, you’ll adore the Hammer and Hunting Horn. The Hammer is a superb weapon andthe authority on KO damage.

I’ve always enjoyed The Hammer, but it received some shiny new moves inWilds. It’s well worth trying if you haven’t done so already.

Another weapon specializing in KO damage is the Hunting Horn, and while the Hammer is arguably better for knockouts, nothing can match the Horn’s utility.

Hunting Horn gameplay has been simplified massively over the last few games, and you caneffortlessly buff your squad mateswhile laying down the pain yourself. Both weapons also synergize with a few key Equipment Skills, like Slugger.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an evolution for the series and the best Monster Hunter game to date.

4Longsword + Hammer

A Blunt And Sharp Combo

The Longsword and Hammer are the best weapons for cutting and KOs, respectively. Sowhy not bring both?

Longsword mains get a bad rap online, and in my experience, the stigma isn’t entirely groundless. Still, nobody can slice off tails betterthan a good Longsword user, and everyone will benefit from the extra materials.

Once you’ve shredded your opponent to ribbons, you’re able to swap to your Hammer and try to score a KO. Knockouts offer your team an excellent opportunity forrisk-free damage, which is useful in every hunt.

This combination allows you to target either the head or tail effectively. The only downside is that each weapon prefers different Equipment Skills, forcing you to use more generic options.

Fortunately, there are many great choices, including my favorite, Agitator. If you bring these weapons along withall of the essential items, there’s nothing you can’t do.

3Greatsword + Light Bowgun

Shoot Them If They Run Away

The Greatsword ismy favorite weaponinMonster Hunter, capable of dealing the most damage in a single blow out of every weapon in the gamewhen you know how.

Itsone glaring weakness is speed, and this becomes abysmally apparent in group hunts where the monster simply won’t stand still. If this happens, you’re able to swap to your trusty Bowgun instead for a punchy but morenimble damage output.

The Light Bowgun takes some getting used to, but it’s deadly in the right hands and issuperb at applying Status effects, something the Greatsword struggles with.

Neither weapon is particularly beginner-friendly, in my opinion, so this is a pairing more suited to an intermediate hunter. If you’re a novice with no clue what to bring, let me show you a combo you’ll adore.

2Sword and Shield + Bow

The Beginner’s Choice

The Sword and Shield (S&S) arewidely regarded as the perfect weaponfor newcomers as there’s nothing they can’t do. Combine that power with the most beginner-friendly ranged weapon, and you become a force to be reckoned with.

The S&S is highly recommended becausethey can do everything. The sword can cut tails, and the shield can cause KO’s and block damage. It’s also the only weapon in the game whereyou can use items while it’s drawn.

The Bow is easy to use once you realize you can spam shots and have incredible mobility. You also havethe Dragon Piercer, which is so satisfying to pull off against large monsters.

A popular misconception is that you should move away from ‘beginner weapons’ once you improve. That’s absolutelynot the case inWilds.

1Charge Blade + Switch Axe

Unconventional High Damage

I’ll always be a Greatsword main, but I frequently dabble in the moreunusual weaponsin theMonster Hunteruniverse.

The Charge Blade and Switch Axe are a pair of fantastic melee weapons withmultiple ‘modes’ and mechanics. These are tricky tools in a Hunter’s arsenal, but both can deal astonishing damage with many Equipment Skills that benefit both.

ThePhial mechanicfor the Charge Blade will take a while for a newcomer to wrap their head around, but both blades have enoughrange and utilityfor all content in the game.

As they are more complex choices, you’ll still be learning new things about them, even hundreds of quests later.
