With a huge cast ofplayable charactersto choose from,Midnight Sunslets players inhabit some of the most iconic Marvel characters, like Wolverine, Captain Marvel, and even the web-swinging wallcrawler himself, Spider-Man. How to use Spider-Man’s abilities isn’t readily obvious, though, and his cards can seem lackluster because Spider-Man is meant to be used with a certain mechanic in Midnight Suns called environment attacks.

Spider-Man uses environment attacks in a way that no other Midnight Suns character does. When his kit is utilized well, Spider-Man can clear entire waves of baddies by himself in turn or two. Getting Peter Parker’s build dialed in isn’t always easy, so the following is Spider-Man’s best build in Midnight Suns.

How This Spider-Man Build Works
Though perhaps not many players' first choice, Spider-Man is one of the best, if not the very best, damage characters in all of Midnight Suns. He sings on the battlefield most when Peter can manipulate enemies throughKnockbacks and Binds, empower his attacks and speed, and take out groups of enemies with environmental attacks and Chain attacks. As a genuine glass cannon with low HP and Resilience, however, players need to pay close attention to Spider-Man’s health and take steps tokeep him from getting focused down within a turn or two. As long as players can keep Spidey alive on the battlefield, he can do a huge amount of damage — both individual and area-of-effect — mainly through environment attacks. These types of attacks use environmental elements that are present in each physical location of each mission.
So, giant boulders can be picked up and thrown at enemies, telephone poles can be smashed down on top of enemies, and all sorts of multi-colored magical things can be exploded, set on fire, or suck down enemies pushed into them for various satisfying eliminations.Spidey is the king of using his environment to do damage, with both ability and his passive use just for environment attacks.Bring the House Down is Spider-Man’s passive ability, and it gives him a 15% to refund the Heroism of an environmental attack.

His ability kit revolves around two main abilities:Opportunist, which makes the next two environment attacks free, andInfernal Spider, which makes the next 3 Spider-Man cards completely free and costs zero card plays that round. Between the use of these abilities, players can get up to 5 cards and many environment attacks in a single turn. This gives Spider-Man a high-risk vs. reward approach because his abilities without these two cards in play are lackluster in the damage department. Also,Thwip!is a great card that applies Bind, which restrains a single enemy for one turn. Although not on the list above, Thwip! is a great option to mix in for boss fights.

Best Spider-Man Team-Ups
There is a good argument to be made that Spider-Man is thebest damage-dealing characterin Midnight Suns. However, his reliance on the environment and his lack of defensive stats and abilities hold him back from taking the number-one spot. Using Opportunist more than twice will often have Spidey run out of environmental weapons. Due to his lack of defensive stats as well,Spider-Manwill always have the best outcome as the single damage dealer in the classic team combo of Tank, Healer, and DPS. That means Tanks such asCaptain America, Wolverine, andHulk, and Healers likeHunterandNicoare reliable options.
Although he will flourish in teams with these heroes,Spider-Man does play well with most other strike team options. Unlike DPS characters like Iron Man and Captain Marvel — who want to stack lots of character cards in their hand — Spider-Man doesn’t need multiple cards to be effective. The wallcrawler is great at what he does right away and with only a couple of cards too. So, Spidey can also take a spot in any weird, off-beat experimental teams players want to try. He can also be a great early-match DPS for biding time. Spider-Man can round out heroes that need more time to develop good damage.
