Meet Your Maker is an innovative genre mashup that puts you in the role of a Custodian, tasked with building a deadly outpost and raiding others. Unlike any other game before it, Meet Your Maker is a combination of Doom aesthetics, Super Mario Maker gameplay, and Hotline Miami combat.

With challenging gameplay, several upgrade systems, and endless combinations for outpost layouts, Meet Your Maker has a lot of areas to focus on. Nothing can fully prepare you for what you’ll face in Meet Your Maker, but by using these tips & tricks you can navigate the early stages of the game with an advantage.
10Raid With Sound On
Some games play perfectly when you put on your favorite playlist or podcast in the background, Meet Your Maker is not one of those games. Since every attack is a 1-hit kill, you need to be on your toes. Having clear audio cues is the best thing you may do to excel in raids.
Traps emit a hum, guards growl, and the harvester’s footsteps will illuminate the path to the GenMat. Without having the in-game audio, you are far more at risk of springing a trap or being ambushed by a guard.

9Visit The Traps Advisor Before Your First Raid
One of the hardest parts of learning how to raid in Meet Your Maker is recognizing which tiles warrant extra caution. Before you enter your first raid, visit the Traps Advisor to get a look at the surprises that await you in the enemy outposts.
In your base of operations, the Sanctuary, there are 5 advisors that offer upgrades and boosts. There you will find a detailed breakdown of each of the 9 Traps and a picture of what to look out for during your time in the wasteland.

8Think In 3-Dimensions
In many 1st person games, you generally focus on your horizon and only rarely need to worry about what’s above and beneath you. In Meet Your Maker, looking up and down is as important as left and right.
Hiding traps on the floor or in the ceiling is very common in raid outposts, don’t forget to check every ceiling and floor panel. Traps will be set at hard-to-see angles or camouflaged between similar-looking tiles. Other Custodians are trying their best to eliminate you, don’t underestimate how clever and difficult these outposts can get.

7Clear Outposts Slowly, There’s No Time Limit
Running through an outpost without looking around is the quickest way to get eliminated. Every new corner is another opportunity to get impaled, incinerated, or exploded. Methodically check every angle and clear every trap before moving through an outpost.

Until you’ve swept an area clear of hostiles, move forward with caution. Regardless of how many traps or guards you’ve already destroyed, there can always be another deadly ambush ahead. Once you’ve gotten the GenMat, keep in mind that new traps have been set up to stop your escape.
6Search For Loot Caches
Throughout your journey raiding the wasteland, you may come across a tile on a wall that looks like a T-shaped light fixture with spare parts jammed inside. When destroyed, this tile will spill out a cache of loot for you to collect.
If you took the advice of entry #10, you can also hear these loot caches when they’re near. They emit an audio cue that strengthens as you get closer, letting you know when you’re on the right track. These caches will always spawn on an upright wall, never on the ceiling, floor, or at an angle.

5Choose Your Raids Based On The Rewards
When looking at the command center’s raid map, there are five different raid options in each of the three difficulties. The five options correspond to the five Advisors in the Sanctuary, completing a raid will reward you with XP for a specific Advisor.
Each Advisor has a Boost that you’re able to purchase to increase certain resource gains. The Hardware Advisor, for example, allows you to purchase Deathgarden - a boost that increases GenMat earned from raiding. If GenMat is what you need most, choose raids that level up the Hardware Advisor to increase Deathgarden’s duration.
4Build An Outpost As Soon As You Can
So far, the tips & tricks on this list have centered around raiding, the first game mode that you’ll be introduced to in Meet Your Maker. After you’ve spent some time raiding and leveling up your Custodian, an opportunity will unlock to claim an outpost of your own.
Not only is it fun to build a level, but having an active outpost will generate resources for you as players play through your raid. For a cherry on top, you can also watch fun replays of players engaging with your level.
3Form Good Instincts
The tight corridors and lack of survival options in Meet Your Maker are unlike many other FPS games. Since there’s no sprint mechanic, no invincibility frames, and the traps & guards cause instant death, your best dodge options may not be what you expect.

Dodge backward, not forward. Going backward is far safer than pushing through, you’ve already cleared behind you and the next corner could be deadly. Don’t be stingy with your ammo, even though it’s limited. Collect your fired bullets, but be aware they stick on guards and in the wall wherever you shot.
2Don’t Be Afraid To Respawn, A Lot
Meet Your Maker is a game of trial by error, every death provides a new batch of information that you didn’t have before. Although trying to get a deathless run is the goal of every new raid, expect to die a lot.
Dying isn’t the end. Every time you die, you’ll uncover a new trap, guard, or tactic to avoid. Don’t be discouraged if you die in the same outpost, even if it’s the same trap that gets you over and over. Learn from each life and find more effective methods to steal the GenMat.
1Use All Available Information To Survive
Audio cues are just one of the ways you can learn to progress in Meet Your Maker. After raiding for a while, you’ll also start learning the techniques that are frequently used by builders. Look for Boltshot Traps on angled ceiling tiles and guards hiding behind fake walls.
Outposts also commonly have traps stacked together, Impaler Traps are hidden next to Boltshot Traps to punish players collecting their ranged ammunition. Since every outpost is different there aren’t any rules that apply to them all. But if you keep your head on a swivel and learn from your mistakes you’ll master Meet Your Maker in no time.
