Nepotism in the entertainment industry has always been a contagious and concerning issue that often invites controversies as it subjugates talented individuals who do not possess the same influential connections. Such was the case with Maya Hawke, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. The 25-year-old actress has appeared in a plethora of popular projects likeOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood, Stranger Things, Asteroid City,and many more.
However, it looks like the young star is suffering from the repercussions of her statements, which she said in a recent interview that bred resentment and hate among people. Maya Hawke fought the ‘nepo-baby’ status by proving her talent, but she believes that without her parent’s influence, she would not have enjoyed the same success.

During an exclusive withThe Guardian, theWildcatactress shared that she does not understand the fuss of her nepotism becoming a headline, as she most ardently believes that she has not earned that title despite having some projects with mixed reviews.
“The only thing that bums me out about it is when it becomes the headline,”she says.“But I also know that some day it won’t be. I deal with the pain of having it be the most important thing by believing that I haven’t yet earned it to not be.”
However, she does not have an ounce of regret for her ‘nepo-baby’ status as she is“immensely grateful,”to do what she loves and the world she grew up around.
“I think you probably can tell that I love this work and I’m so grateful to be getting to do it. I can believe anything I want to believe about me having found a way to be an artist even if I’d been adopted. But I don’t know – I’m so grateful for the world I grew up around, for the New York City theatre scene I was raised in, getting to go see plays and sit backstage, and to know about great directors and how I wanted to be.”
While Maya Hawke’s comments have angered the masses, she does not seem to care too much about it as her upbringing helps her to ignore the opinion of the masses.

In the same interview with The Guardian, theItalian Studiesactress shared that her upbringing was comparatively different as she was “rooted in poetry, and a constant conversation about what it means to make art.”
During the interview, she received a call from her father, Ethan Hawke, who was philosophizing about art and life, where she responded,
“It [was] about responding to when things get positive attention that are not your favourite things you’ve ever done, and your favourite things don’t get that much attention,”she says,“How do you not follow the bad wolf that leads you towards being likable? How do you stay true to yourself?”
