While Sylvester Stallone’sTulsa Kingcontinues to hit big numbers for Paramount, on the writing front, there have been some notable letdowns in contrast to its previous outing, and the ninth episode is no different. In the penultimate episode ofTulsa Kingseason 2, Dwight momentarily contemplates killing Armand after the latter ends up stealing half a million from him.

However, the mafioso decides against it, and reflecting on it, Armand’s actor Max Casella weighs his own theory on why Dwight chooses to be merciful.
Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight Is No Longer a Traditional Gangster
In season 2 so far, both Armand and Tyson were easily let off the hook, especially the former, who chose to steal from the dispensary. However, in a moment of introspection, instead of running off, he decides to turn the wheels and face Dwight and urges the latter to kill him. While in any other case, this would be grounds for execution,Sylvester Stallone‘s Dwight decides otherwise.
“I’m a big believer”: Season 2 is Just the Beginning, Sylvester Stallone Has Always Wanted Multiple Sequel Seasons for Tulsa King With Taylor Sheridan
Although Max Casella admitted that Dwight’s reasoning to forgive Armand is open to many interpretations, as it could turn out to be the Tulsa general’s plan to get a one-up against Jackie, Casella expressed that Dwight isn’t“behaving like a real true gangster anymore”. Considering he was exiled for 25 years, Casellaaddedthat Dwight no longer follows the old-school rules, which is also reflected in his decision to not punish Tyson for his rash actions.
That’s open to many interpretations. I think on the one side of things, Dwight, post-Oklahoma, isn’t behaving like a real true gangster anymore. Otherwise, I think he would definitely kill Armand, he would do a lot of things differently than he would have had. He’d been gone away for 25 years and then just been exiled

Elaborating on it,The Sopranosstar shared that the gangster has“a heart of gold”. Moreover, keeping in mind that he got a chance to make things right with his daughter, Casella expressed that Dwight might very much believe in second chances.
Tulsa King Showrunner Weighed on What Separates Dwight From Tony Soprano
ShowrunnerTerence Winterechoed a similar stance when asked about the difference between Dwight and Tony Soprano. Even though both share similar traits on paper, unlike the Soprano head, Winter shared, Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight is much rationaland reasonable at heart.
I think Dwight, at heart, is a rational, reasonable guy. He’s not a bully. I mean, a lot of mob guys in real life are bulls in china shops. I think Dwight in general, will be respectful to people until he feels that they don’t deserve that, and then the other shoe drops. He’s thoughtful in the sense that he actually thinks about the world. He’s had plenty of time in prison to reflect on his choices. And he’s incredibly well read. He has a much broader base of knowledge about the world than most gangsters.

As for Armand’s potential redemption arc, Casella hopes his story continues in a potential season 3, which seemspretty likely.
