Marvel Rivalscan be very overwhelming if you’re new to hero shooters. Thankfully, the game tries its best to give you as much information as possible to help you learn.

However, some features might fall through the cracks, hidden from the game’s tips and tutorials. These “secret” mechanics can be game-changing or minor details that give you a slight advantage over your team.

Overwatch vs Marvel Rivals

Something seems rather familiar about these heroes and villains.

10Damage Numbers And Stats

The Nerdy Stuff

Let’s start with crunching numbers. As typical of most shooters, almost every weapon has an effective range and is therefore affected by damage fall-off.

These damage numbers are hidden but are helpful to know if you want to become a better player. For example, Black Widow’s rifle does 50% less damage if your target is more than 20 meters away (but this only applies if you’re hip firing).

9Chronovision

See Only Destruction

While the tutorial kind of covers this, most tend to ignore or take this unique mechanic for granted.

You can access Chronovision to find destructible objects, including walls that will open previously hidden paths for you and your team.

By pressing the B key on the PC or the right D-pad button on XBox and PlayStation, you’re able to see objects that are highlighted in yellow.

Try exploring maps and using Chronovision to find strategic advantages in new pathways.

8Your Hero Pick Matters

Not Just Your Role

This is more of a general tip for anybody who is relatively new to hero shooters. Not only does your role matter, but so does your choice in Heroes.

Spider-Manwould be a great pick for maps with high ceilings and tall structures like the maps in Neo-Shibuya, but his movement is greatly impeded in the smaller Hydra base maps.

Marvel Rivals Squirrel Girl Ultimate

Likewise, Peni Parker’s area denial abilities work best in chokepoints or when you need to hold an area, but would struggle to build a nest in bigger areas or if she were on the attack.

Know the map, andknow which Hero is most appropriate for the environment.

7Ultimate Voice Lines Are Different

Who Said That?

Throughout any given match, whenever anybody casts an Ultimate, the voice line echoes across the map. However, that voice line differs depending on whether it’s from an ally or an enemy.

For example, when an enemyIron Mancasts his ultimate, he yells “MAXIMUM PULSE!” A friendly Iron Man, however, would say “Pulse charge, fire!”

Being able to distinguish between enemy and ally ultimate voice lines can tell you whether you’re safe or in imminent danger.

6Cover Management

Learning Positioning Techniques

You might think you’re safe behind your Vanguard, or that a Strategist’s healing is enough to make up for any damage you take, but that might not be enough to prevent you from getting obliterated by the enemy team when you’re exposed.

Cover management is just as important as dealing damage from afar, especially if your hero has a ranged attack. Aiming better than your opponents and using your abilities are just half the battle.

While it is a different type of shooter, most PVPDestiny 2players would tell you the best rule of thumb for cover management in any firefight is 60/40; during engagements, try to keep 40% of your screen as the cover, while the other 60% is where you’re shooting at.

Here’s an extra tip I found fromKarQ on X: take advantage of the game’s 3rd-person over the right shoulder perspective by aiming slightly to the right of your enemy. You’re more likely to hit your shots than if you aim left.

5Rewatch Highlights And Matches

Show Off Your Plays

Want to relive some of the most intense gaming moments? While the game doesn’t directly tell you this, you can access Match Replays and the five most recent Highlights in your main menu.

To find your clips, click your profile picture, where all your career information is centralized. Your recent highlights and match replays will be in the “History” and Favorites" tabs, and you can even download Highlight videos!

4Proficiency

Earn Rewards For Having A Main

Another thing that the game doesn’t tell you is that each Hero has a Proficiency ranking scale, ranging from Agent to Lord.

Each rank requires certain tasks for you to complete for that specific Hero to level up,earning you prestigious rewards like sprays, character profile changes, and KO graphic changes that are specific to your character.

3Communication Wheel

Better Comms Makes Better Teamwork

If you hold your ping button (middle mouse button for PC),you’ll open up a wheel menu where you can use preset phrases for quick communication without game chat.

You can customize your phrases in your settings. Just go to “Communications” and assign them to whichever slot. You can even increase your communication wheel slots from four to eight.

While you don’t need to follow exactly what I have,I highly recommend the following phrases, as these will most likely be uttered the most in any given match:

This tip is mostly useful for people who solo queue or prefer not to use voice chat.

2Mission Progress Vs. AI

Tired Of People? Try Bots!

Marvel Rivalshas Daily Missions and Challenges that reward you with Credits and Chrono Tokens when completed.

If you want to just log on and do your dailies without the hassle and stress of going against other players, then you may simply hop on Vs. AI mode to do them,as they count towards mission progress.

This is an extremely easy way to earn rewards to buy cosmetics.Unfortunately, if you’re trying to complete a challenge that wants you to do specific team-ups, then that’s up to luck.

1Customize Your Settings

Personalize Your Game

Most people stick to the default settings, but I highly recommend customizing them, especially Combat settings.

you may change your keybinds, reticle shape, and character-specific settings that you might want to customize.

If you’re a Spider-Man or Venom player, I would suggestturning off “Easy Swinging” or “Auto Swinging,“allowing you to aim your web swings much more easily. This is a game changer, as you can much more easily predict the trajectory of your web swings.

Healers can also turn on “healing feedback,“which gives you not only an audio cue but a green cross every time you heal someone.

There are many other options on the Settings page for you to experiment with. Try out Combat Audio too!
