Mario Kart Worldhas received a meaty update that has rolled back an unpopular change from the previous patch, where players were gaming the system to race on their preferred tracks.
Mario Kart World hastwo broad varieties of racing tracks, with the standard three-lap courses from the old games existing alongside new “Intermission” tracks, where the player has to race to the stage and then complete a single lap. Players aren’t a fan of the new tracks and prefer the multi-lap approach.

Mario Kart World Almost Broke A Huge Series Convention
The developers of Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2 have revealed that the game nearly broke one of the series' longest-running conventions.
Players had discovered that selecting “Random” in VS Race meant that the multi-lap course was always chosen. This was patched outin the Ver. 1.1.2 update, but according to the officialNintendowebsite, the Ver. 1.2.0 update has given players a new way to choose how they engage with the multiplayer modes.

Mario Kart World’s Ver. 1.2.0 Patch Now Makes Lap Courses More Likely
According to the patch notes, the frequency of lap-type courses has been increased in “VS Race” and wireless races. This can be seen as Nintendo acquiescing on the issue, especially following fan outcry after the previous changes.
Another big change involves the game being made easier, asAI characters have been made weakerin every mode except “Battle.” Hopefully, this means they won’t pile on the items as much during the final lap of races, as that’s easily the worst part of Mario Kart World and a good reason to put the game down and never pick it up again.

It’s clear that the developers want the players to try out thenew styles of contentin Mario Kart World, but it’s hard to get people to switch over when they’ve been used to the same content for thirty years. Hopefully, a future update will offer more options for the VS Random mode that will make everyone happy by breaking down the course types into selectable formats.
