The first episode ofLokiSeason 2 has finally aired, and you can watch the God of Mischief in a completely new multiverse as opposed to one sacred timeline like in Season 1. At the end of the last season, after the death of He Who Remains and MCU’s official multiverse concept finally taking off, there were many unanswered questions about the story that people were hoping would be answered in Season 2.

What Is Time Slipping?

Initially,at the end of Season 1, we see Loki in a completely different TVAwith a statue ofJonathan Major’s Kangthe Conqueror in the middle of the lobby. Initially, fans speculated thatLoki might have accidentally ended up in one of the branched timelines where Mobius wasn’t aware of Loki’s existence in the TVA. But it turns out he was Time-Slipping and jumping between different times and realities in what looked to be an extremely painful way. It included visiting the future, the past, and the current timeline or present and made for some very confusing storytelling that we’ll discuss later.

After Loki slips back into the present,Mobius introduces him to Ouroboros, or O.B. (Ke Huy Quan), who explains Time-Slipping to the pair and how it shouldn’t be possible in the TVA. Mobius also expresses his distaste for how Loki looks when he’s slipping, and though Loki is confused and disoriented with so much jumping, they doeventually find a way to fix it. O.B. suggests a cure that involves pruning and visiting the Temporal Loom, and by the end of the situation, Loki almost missed his cue, and he could’ve been lost to time forever if a mysterious benefactor hadn’t pruned him just in time. Why Loki was Time-Slipping is a question that will hopefully be answered in subsequent episodes since it should be impossible to do so at the TVA headquarters.

Timelines Loki Visits

Loki visits different versions of the TVA during his time slips, with the first being the one we saw at the end of Season 1. It looked to be the past since Mobius wasn’t aware of Loki, andthere was a statue of He Who Remainsin the central TVA lobby, but it also very well could be the far future since the timelines are so convoluted. He also visits the present, where he thankfully partners with the past and present versions of O.B. to work on a device that could cure him.

He visits multiple versions of the TVA before slipping at a crucial moment in the future, which shows the TVA on the brink of collapse. As he scrambles through the halls to find a pruning stick for O.B.’s plan to fix the Time-Slipping, Loki runs into a familiar face, Sylvie, who is pushing an elevator door open and claiming to have finally found him. A literal second after the reunion, Loki is pruned by a mysterious figure back into the original timeline, cured of any time-slipping shenanigans. This future didn’t seem too far, though, since Sylvie looked almost the same, suggesting that we will probably revisit this moment in later episodes.
