Footage ofPlayStation’s upcoming handheld remote play device, which is currently codenamed ‘Project Q’, has leaked online. Although there is no footage of the device actually streaming a PlayStation game, it does appear to reveal that the device may be running on an Android operating system, a decision that some fans have dubbed as “interesting.”

It’s clear that although the physical shell of the device is completed, there’s still some work to be done on the software side of things, at least in the model shown in the footage. As pointed out by a user onReddit, the Android OS will likely be heavily modified by the time of release so that it matches the aesthetic of the PlayStation 5 OS. What can be seen in the footage is, of course, not an accurate representation of the final product.

Rumors of a new handheld device from Sony had been circulating for quite sometime before its official announcement, predominantly fromInsider Gaming’s Tom Henderson. Now, following the most recent leaks, Henderson claims that the leaked footage was sent to him a few days ago and that he can verify the leaks with anonymous sources.

Project Q was then officially revealed during a PlayStation showcase back in May. Although a release date for the device is yet to be confirmed, there are reports that it will be released in November of this year. The device will allow PlayStation 5 owners to stream any game straight to the device through the console’s remote play feature.

The device will have an 8-inch high-definition screen, along with all of the buttons and features of the DualSense controller. However, shortly after the reveal of Project Q, reports began circulating online that the device will have a prettyabysmal battery life of roughly 3-4 hours, although this has yet to be officially confirmed by PlayStation themselves.
