Fans are hyped over the news that the popular manga series ‘Komi Can’t Communicate’ will be getting a live-action adaptation. What do we know about it so far?
The manga series was first released in May 2016 and was incredibly well received by thousands of readers, it currently sits at 8.28 onMy Anime List. It’s so popular that NHKannouncedon 23rd July 2021 that they would be picking it up for a live-action adaptation.
Not only will the series be getting a live-action version but animation studio OLM (Oriental Light and Magic) have greenlit an anime series under their production which will be releasing later this year.
Komi Can’t Communicate: Release Date For The Live-Action Series
The live-action series ofKomi Can’t Communicateis scheduled to release at 10:45 PM JST on 6th September 2021, via NHK General TV. For international fans it’s possible the series will be picked up by Netflix, depending on how well it does.
Komi Can’t Communicatewill consist of 8 episodes and is directed by Yoshihito Okashita and Eiji Ishi. The producer for the series is Hiroyuki Onuma, with Fumie Mizuhashi working on it as a writer.
The series will feature music by Eishi Segawa, who has also worked on ‘Murasaki’ (2011) and ‘Flying Colours’ (2015) as a composer.

The premise of the live-action series will be inspired by the manga series, though whether or not chapters will be closely followed remains to be seen. The story follows a young man named Tadano who is Timid by nature and keeps to himself though one day he is alone in a classroom with another student named Komi who has an aloof personality and is very popular because of the way she carries herself.
Upon getting to know her he realises this is not her real personality and that she is just very awkward and so he takes it upon himself to help her socialise and make friends.
What we Know About The Upcoming Anime Series
The anime series ofKomi Can’t Communicateis expected toreleaseon 6th October 2021 on Japanese network TV Tokyo. The adaptation has been highly requested and wasranked first in a poll by AnimeJapan in 2020 that asked fans about their “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation”.
News of the anime adaptation wasreleasedon 11th May 2021 with the live-action adaptation being greenlit only two months later. The cast of the anime will have Aoi Koga as Shoko Komi, Gakuto Kajiwara as Hitohito Tadano and Rie Murakawa as Najimi Osana.
The anime is written by Deko Akao and has Ayumu Watanabe as chief director and Kazuki Kawagoe as secondary director. It is also inspired by the manga and has not yet confirmed if it will directly incorporate chapters into the storyline. Fans can watch the teaserhere. The series will likely be shown on Crunchyroll or Funimation when it releases.
