Many modern shonen anime and manga series have created and broken records with their mind-blowing success. Even among these titles,Jujutsu Kaisenenjoys an extraordinary status. From memes to internet discourse,Jujutsu Kaisen’s hype was unparalleled up until its end. Even after the ending debacle, the manga has a dedicated fan base that would bawl their eyes out at the mere mention ofJJK.

Chainsaw Manbegan its run around the same time asJJK. Both manga share some commonalities from their dark themes to the animation studio. So, would it be right to put these two under the same category? Some fans disagree, and rightfully so. In a sense,Jujutsu Kaisenhas overshadowed the brilliance ofChainsaw Manwhich remains unappreciated for the most part.
DoChainsaw ManandJujutsu Kaisenfall under the same category?
Jujutsu Kaisenwas first published in 2018 and its quick rise to popularity is mind-blowing.Gege Akutamienriched the manga with some of the most memorable characters and their unique powers. When the manga was still airing, fans would often spend their time unraveling the complexities of the fights.
In many ways,JJKdefined success and greatness. As a dark-shonen manga with memorable characters,JJKis quite similar toChainsaw Man.

For instance, both series have iconic villains, Makima and Sukuna, who maintain an integral presence in the plot progression. Despite the similarities, a deeper analysis quickly highlights the ways in whichJJKcomes off as superficial when compared toChainsaw Man. An X post debunks the idea thatChainsaw ManandJJKare similar through a comparative analysis.

Even Gege Akutami Couldn’t Have Predicted How 8 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters Scored Above Sukuna in Popularity Poll
Whether it’s Gojo’s silly or Nanami’s toughness, all characters inJJKhave wonderful designs that serve as the most delightful visual treat. But except for Sukuna, hardly any character gets a complete character arc or proper exploration in the series.
We know bits about every character but when it comes to defining them, the description remains limited to their physical appearance or their strength. This is also true for the plot twists and the decisions Akutami makes throughout the narrative.

They definitely evoke emotions, but very few scenes resonate with fans deeply beyond the shock. Compared to that,Tatsuki Fujimoto’s storytelling is also character-centric but in an entirely different way.
Chainsaw Manis in a league of its own
EveryChainsaw Mancharacter defines melancholy and endless suffering. Almost all the characters in the series have led tragic lives and have found flickers of hope to hold on to. They bond over their shared awful experiences and self-sabotaging coping mechanisms. Fujimoto fleshes out his characters so realistically that he unravels the ugly and unlikable things about them and puts them on display.
And then, he tries to explain how the characters are entrenched in their suffering. Every time they take one step forward, the next situation undoes that progress.Denji’s progression from the first part of the manga to the secondactually shows his regression, and fans are eager to see his comeback.

It All Boils Down to 1 Deep-Dive Reason Why Tatsuki Fujimoto’s ‘Look Back’ Is a Masterclass in Storytelling

It might be unfair to compare both series when they have such different themes and ideologies, butChainsaw Manrepresents much more than the constant shock and cheap thrills ofJujutsu Kaisen.
