Kentaro Miura, the creator ofBerserk, has talked about the major influences in his life and works multiple times. After all, who wouldn’t be curious about the mind of such a popular mangaka? As it turns out, it’s not just the author’s manga that is unique, it is also his inspiration.

Griffith in Berserk

In an interview, the author openly admitted he loved two Hollywood directors but lost interest in another one. So why are these fated/ill-fated directors? You would be surprised by their popularity.

Why James Cameron Stopped Inspiring Kentaro Miura

Inan interview,Kentaro Miuraadmitted that while he was still a fan of directors like Tim Burton and Sam Raimi, he was no longer too fond of James Cameron. Cameron, the legendary director ofTitanic, Avatar, The Terminator, and plenty of other iconic movies, can no longer hold the interest of Miura. The reason is very simple:

James Cameron lost his touch after he got big.

Cameron has been behind the scenes of some of the most impactful movies ever created, so how could he fall behind in a race of creators and directors? While Cameron has the biggest hits under his belt, his more recent movies did not hit the mark. For example,Alita, the cyberpunk action film produced by Cameron was barely able to recover its making costs.

Dark Fate suffered even more since it received mixed reviews and turned out to be a disaster. After Dark Fate, people lost their hope and could no longer believe Cameron still had his Midas’ touch. On the other hand, Avatar 2, the sequel that was released around 13 years after its original movie broke box-office records, but also received a fair amount of criticism.

Guts in Berserk

Well, I don’t know if he thinks of himself as offbeat. But when I saw Terminator as a Sci-Fi fan, I was really excited that he was one of those offbeat geniuses like Tim Burton, but turns out he wasn’t.

Kentaro Miura further clarified that he lovedTerminator, which is what led him to assume Cameron was exceptional. But as the franchises got longer and projects became more and more expensive, Miura no longer felt uniqueness from his works.

I like Tim Burton, because his movies are always offbeat. It’s almost strange that a person ca be that offbeat and big at the same time. But that’s why I love his movies.

Tim Burton has highlighted the goth culture in his movies. He has some of the most prolific titles under his belt:Corpse Bride, Planet of Apes, 2005 Charles and the Chocolate Factory, and more. The director is as sharp as ever and has earned countless accolades for his achievements.
