The battle between the sub and the dub versions is one of the longest ongoing duels in the history of anime. While this battle has been mostly won by the sub-version, there are a few instances where the dub version has prevailed. Recently, it was seen in the second episode of the Solo Leveling anime series Season 2, “Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadow.“

While the sub version tries its best to adapt the entirety of the manhwa into the anime’s story, it recently ignored a minor detail that was quite significant for Sung Jinwoo’s character. And although the sub version overlooked it, the dub version didn’t give up on that opportunity and made sure to include it in the episode, which in turn earned all the praise and appreciation.

Sung Jinwoo’s English voice actor, Aleks Le, shared a tweet on X where he talked about the significance of that one instance in Sung Jinwoo’s character. He also explained that although the sub ignored it, he knew about its importance and thus decided to include it, making Sung Jinwoo look extremely cool.

The sub version ofSolo Levelingoverlooked Sung Jinwoo’s lines

The second episode ofSolo Levelingseason 2, titled “I Suppose You Aren’t Aware,” was a combination of thrill and drama as Sung Jinwoo battles the army of Ice Bears and Ice Elves. However, in the midst of all this, he also had to deal with Kim Chul, the A-Rank Hunter from the White Tiger Guild who led the raid within the dungeon.

When the raid began and the dungeon turned into a red gate, Kim Chul decided to take all the strong hunters along with him and left the weak hunters behind along with Sung Jinwoo. However, all of his crew was wiped out by the Ice Elves, and he had no choice but to return back. On his way, he saw that all the weak hunters were completely comfortable with a plethora of supplies.

Watching them having fun, Kim got angry and pointed out that he would count to three, and before that the hunters needed to reveal who stole the supplies. As he reaches “3,” Sung Jinwoo enters the scene and overpowers Kin Chul. But as he does that, he calls out “4,” which makes him look incredibly cool and nonchalant.

This was one of the coolest moments for Sung Jinwoo in that particular chapter, but it was omitted from the sub version of the anime series. Because of this, it didn’t have the same effect in the anime as it did in the manhwa.

Aleks Le saved the dub version ofSolo Leveling

Although it was a very small line with very little significance, it still had a lot of impact on Sung Jinwoo’s character in theSolo Levelingmanhwa chapter. Thus, if it had been a part of the anime series, it would have hyped up his character even more. This was proved byAleks Le, Sung Jinwoo’s voice actor in the dub version ofSolo Leveling.

Le recently shared a tweet on X where he revealed that in the sub version ofSolo Leveling,Jinwoo’s line “4” was removed from the scene probably because of the timing.

Sung Jinwoo

in the sub of Solo Leveling, Jinwoo’s line “4” was cut from the scene where he interrupts Kim’s count (prob due to timing). After recording the ep tho, Caitlin & I both said at the SAME TIME that we wanted to put that line from the manwha in the dub bc it was just too cold 🥶pic.twitter.com/xEu5CACoHk

However, whenLe recorded the episode, he and Caitlin Glass (ADR Director of Solo Leveling) both felt that they should put that line from the manhwa in the dub version as it was too cold.

Don’t Be Fooled by ‘Solo Leveling’s’ Success After the Mistreatment of ‘Tower of God’

Le and Glass’s decision was right as the line worked infavor of Sung Jinwoo’s character. He is the protagonist of theSolo Levelingseries, and these kinds of lines make him stand out. Thus, even though they don’t have much significance, they are still necessary for Sung Jinwoo and forSolo Leveling.

Solo Levelingis available to watch on Crunchyroll.
