Kristen Stewart has been at the forefront of the media for many years now. Having starred in many different roles and worn many different faces, she has established herself as a truly versatile actress. While acting seems to have been more than a little fulfilling, it would seem that Stewart has been seeking something more for a few years.

In 2018, the actress announced at theCannes Film Festivalthat she would be making her directorial debut. While not much was heard about the project in the years that followed, the actress has finally spoken up about it, and the details are quite fascinating.
Not only would many of her fans be surprised at the approach she is taking with her first film, but the project may also spark some controversy.

Kristen Stewart’s Long-Awaited Directorial Debut
Kristen Stewartrecently gave an interview withNet-a-Porter, where she went into great detail about her first directorial project. Following the story of Lidia Yuknavitch, the film will be based on her memoir,The Chronology of Water.
The actress started by revealing that the project was in its early stages of production. However, she was very excited to work on it. She then talked about the movie itself, touching on exactly what subjects the film will entail.

“I would have broken up with him immediately”: Kristen Stewart Admitted She Hated the Controlling Nature of Robert Pattinson’s Edward in Twilight
“It’s kind of a self-conscious thing to talk about, because it’s hard to get anything made. You know, [a film] that’s not regurgitating something that’s pretty standardized,”she muses.“My movie is about inc-st and periods and a woman violently repossessing her voice and body, and it is, at times, hard to watch,” said the actress.
The actress confessed that the themes thatThe Chronology of Wateris set to follow made it quite difficult for her to find people willing to finance it. In her own words, the movie follows a story surrounding the female experience, tied in with inc-st. These matters can make it difficult for one to convince people to tie themselves to it.

Inc*st, Periods, and Female Rage
Kristen Stewartthen mentioned that the film, on top of familial relationships, would also touch on subjects like menstruation, as well as a woman who gets her voice back in very violent ways. This is not surprising considering how Lidia Yuknavitch’s book explores her own experience with addiction and childhood s*xual abuse.
“… but it’s gonna be a f*cking thrill ride. And I think that’s commercial, but I don’t think that I have any gauge on what that means,”she laughs. “I think people would want to see that, but then… I think maybe people wanna watch movies about, like, Jesus and dogs.”she finished

It is safe to say that the subject matters are quite triggering and could spark conflict upon the film’s release. The actress also added that the movie, on its own, could be hard to watch sometimes due to how dark its story can get. Despite this, she was very excited to make it and for audiences to watch it.
She finished by saying that she was still a little skeptical about whether audiences wanted to see a movie like this, wondering if they would prefer something more light-hearted.
