Revolving around the romance of two former high school sweethearts who embark on a high-stakes mission, Netflix’s new romcom spy-thrillerThe Unionbrought Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry to share the screen. Surprisingly, while promoting the film, although Wahlberg hailed the project as “every guy’s fantasy”, he also expressed his discomfort in playing onscreen lovers with Berry.

Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg’s absurd compliment about the film appeared after director Julian Farino addressed their “long debated” decision of refraining from showing a kiss between Wahlberg and Halle Berry’s character. Admitting his desire to build chemistry and tension, Farino shared the logic behind skipping the kiss.
Mark Wahlberg Dropped a Tantalizing Compliment forThe Unionand Halle Berry
Collaborating and cozying up with Halle Berry in their newNetflix movieThe Union, Mark Wahlberg shared his work experience during an interview withFox News Digital. Promoting their spy-thriller about two high school sweethearts on a high-stakes US intelligence mission, Wahlberg presented the movie as “every guy’s fantasy”.
“He was very macho”: Mark Wahlberg Made Kate Moss Extremely Uneasy in Topless Ad That ‘Preyed’ on Her Vulnerability
Creating hype about what to expect from his onscreen romance with Halle Berry,Mark Wahlbergclaimed to have high hopes for his film’s success. Further, complementing his co-star’s s*x appeal and popularity among fans, Wahlberg went on to narrate the trope of the movie and share his work experience with the Marvel star.
Halle, her and I have known each other for such a long time and this movie is going to be so great because it’s every guy’s fantasy, to think that they got a shot with Halle Berry.

They were childhood sweethearts, and they come back together. He basically waited 25 years for her to come back… and it happens, and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to prove himself to her.
Further, considering the dripping romance in Mark Wahlberg’s plot narration, the actor explained how difficult it was for him to execute that romance onscreen. Admitting that it was “a little weird” for him to pretend to be in love with Halle Berry given that he’s been married to his wife Rhea Durham, Wahlberg mentioned the awkwardness.

I think it’s a little weird anyway when you’re portraying some sort of romance onscreen, it’s not normal, but my wife knows that she is my everything. She is the most special woman in the world.
But surprisingly, Mark Wahlberg’s absurd compliment about the film, as well as his awkwardness in pretending to be in love with Halle Berry happened despite never having to kiss the actress onscreen.

Director Julian Farino Skipped the Kiss Between Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry
According to director Julian Farino’s interview withVariety, the filmmaker noted how he deliberately skipped the decision to feature a kiss between Mark Wahlberg andHalle Berry. Stating that it was a “long debated” decision, Farino explained using audiences’ desperation for a kiss, as a way of building tension and scope for a sequel.
We take the relationship to a certain place, and then I think you’ve got to leave a lot of space to go. Netflix always said to us at the beginning, ‘You have to think of this as a possible three-movie idea.’

So if an audience comes out wanting a kiss, then we’ve probably done alright, in my opinion.
Echoing Julian Farino’s logic about skipping the kiss, Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry noted that audiences’ desire to see a kiss at the end of the movie might allow them to make a sequel. Meanwhile, hoping for the initial film’s success, Wahlberg and Berry addressed the thrills of being part of a production that shot on location rather than stage.
Halle Berry shared:
Once they kiss, then it’s over. We’re hoping if we get to do a second one, we’ll let that chase continue. You want to see the journey — to see these two high school sweethearts find each other.
Mark Wahlberg commented:
If we get to go on and do something else, I would imagine there’ll be a lot more than a kiss. But, you know, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Playing the role of two estranged high school sweethearts, construction worker Mike, and secret agent Roxanne,The Unionset the stage for plenty of practical action, while balancing it with romance and tantalizing affair.
The Unionis now streaming on Netflix.
