Avatar: The Last Airbenderis one of the most iconic and popular series that made waves since its premiere and it only went on to garner popularity and traction for its riveting storyline. But what’s enthralling about the series are its characters.

From Toph to Zuko, the series highlighted some of the well-written characters. Be it strength, humor, or wisdom, the writers left no stone unturned in fleshing them out and this is also the case with Azula.
Her unprecedented hatred for Zuko along with her father’s favoritism toward her makes her one of the despicable characters in the show. But her actions are rooted in her parents’ neglect, manipulation, and abuse.

Amidst the hatred, though, several fans have empathized with her character. Her trajectory is reflective of pain, abandonment, and suffering which proves why she deserves a second chance. Aaron Ehasz, one of the writers believed that this would’ve shaped the future seasons of the show.
Aaron Ehasz opens up about Azula’s redemption arc
Azulais one of the most hated characters in the show. As the Princess of the Fire Nation, she is also the younger sister to Zuko. Her intelligence and impeccable fire-bending abilities make her formidable in many aspects, but there’s a catch.
Despite her strength, wit, and intelligence, she descended into villainy as her insecurities and hatred toward Zuko got the best of her. On top of that, her path is nothing short of tragic considering her gut-wrenching backstory.

Born to Fire Lord Ozai and Ursa, her childhood was nothing short of perilous. Her father mapped thetrajectories of her lifeincluding her estrangement from her mother. His banishment of Ursa was the major event that triggered his daughter.
In retrospect, he abandoned both his son and daughter in his quest for power. Ursa and Zuko were weaponized to orchestrate his rise as a Fire Lord. Eventually, it all played out perfectly for the Fire Lord which resulted in Azula losing his sanity. However, the writer strongly believed that she deserved a chance at redemption.

Aaron Ehaszspoke abouthis intention of writing the character’s redemption arc and how it turned out on X.
It was refreshing to witness the sensibility and empathy of fans toward the character. While Azula showed no signs of remorse, her actions stemmed mainly from years of abuse and brainwashing. But that is not the end of it.

The competition between both siblings shreds a possible connection that would’ve dissented against the Fire Lord’s views. And while her redemption arc sounds perfect for Season 4, there’s little to no confirmation about the show’s status.
Avatar: The Last AirbenderSeason 4 might be up in the air
To sayAvatar: The Last Airbenderis popular would be a gross understatement considering its massive popularity worldwide. Its representation of Asian culture and belief systems exemplifies diversity and authenticity in more ways than one.
But that is not all considering its portrayal of friendships, relationships, parenthood, and society. Its diversity lies in its intricate storytelling that invokes a sense of belonging and familiarity. But there’s more to it than meets the eye.
Of late, there were several rumors regarding the series’ renewal. And while it seemed too good to be true, it waseventually disputedby the Directors. Currently, the franchise has released two seasons of the live-action adaptation.
With the third season greenlit by Netflix, it’s a win for the franchise. This is refreshing considering the series’ adaptation and casting. As opposed to the controversial race-swapping movie, the live-action is a complete banger.
