Actress Uma Thurman worked with Tarantino on three films, including his crime-dramaPulp Fiction, which is considered one of the director’s best works.

During a recent reunion of the film’s cast, Thurman spoke about Tarantino’s filmmaking style and explained how it has changed, especially after the director found success with his earlier works. The quartet also took part in a special screening of the film and answered several questions. During the event, Thurman jokingly stated thatPulp Fictionwas the last time Tarantino worked with a set script before changing his filmmaking style to become more improvisational.

“I think it was probably the last film Quentin made that was on schedule, where he actually tried to make his days and make his weeks. I think after that, it’s been pretty improvisational for him.”

Thurman made the above statement (viaIndieWire), implying that Tarantino’s success early on in his career has affected his later films in a major way.

Thurman later worked with Tarantino on both volumes of the martial arts dramaKill Bill, which by the director’s ownadmissionwas heavily improvised, especially when it came to its action scenes. Hence, it is safe to say there is some truth to Thurman’s comments, even if she was just joking.

“It changed cinema. I feel like I’ve had an evolving and beautiful and growing relationship with Pulp Fiction throughout my life. It changed every filmmaker that I’ve met since.”
