It was no less than a shocker for Marvel fans when Marvel Studios releasedX-Men ’97. A continuation of the beloved original series,X-Men: The Animated Series, no fan had expected that the show would have such meticulous storytelling and be faithful to its core mythos.

However, withX-Men ’97’sseason 2 announcement, Marvel Studios might have already committed a mistake similar to Fox’s ill-fatedDark Phoenixsaga.
Marvel Studios Might Have Made a Blunder WithX-Men ’97S2
While season one ofX-Men ’97ended with a bang and more, quickly becoming one of the top Marvel series of all time, fans have been eagerly waiting for its second season. And as per the recently held Marvel Studios’ D23 2024 presentation, the season might be closer than we think.
Revealing some brilliant and exciting details about the upcoming show, such as new characters like Danger, Polaris, and Havoc, Marvel Studios also showcased some footage from season 2 (viaComicBook). But what has caught the attention of many fans and attendees is that the mutant force will reportedly be changing their suits.

While in season one ofX-Men ’97we saw that the X-Men changed their looks towards the end of the series, they will further be making a handful of changes to their looks. As per the D23 presentation, the characters’ looks will reportedly be inspired byGrant Morrison‘sNew X-Men(viaScreenRant).
A departure from X-Men’s usual colorful looks, the Grant Morrison-inspired looks were last seen in Fox’sDark Phoenixmovie. Featuring black and yellow jackets, the suits weren’t much loved by fans, who described them as cheap and lacking the iconicX-Menflair. Hence, the decision to incorporate such designs and costumes has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

Fans React toX-Men ’97Changing Their Costumes in Season 2
Beau DeMayo, the creator ofX-Men ’97, has already confirmed that Grant Morrison suits will be seen in the season of the series. Stating that thisdecision was rooted in story… and the themes Season 2 will explore(viaX), fans aren’t as intrigued by the news. With the series moving on in time, a modern take on the characters’ looks is inevitable, yet, fans don’t want the studio to adapt Grant Morrison’s take on the mutant suits.

Ugh why couldn’t they stay in their Jim Lee outfits? 🤦🏽♂️ I hate this idea and didn’t even really like the outfit changes in the finale of season 1

I hated seeing these in X-men: Dark Phoenix. Oh

I would’ve rather you guys kept the John Byrne/Jim Lee era suits. I HATED the Morrison suits, it was too close to what Bryan Singer did with his films.

While the return of the mutants in the MCU has been met with excitement, this news seems to have stamped down all of fans’ excitement and expectations from the show. Fans are already upset that creator Beau DeMayo won’t have any involvement in the show, this news has further given rise to the fear thatX-Men ’97is moving in the same direction as Fox with the series’ sophomore season.
A mistake that could cause Marvel much damage, we hopeX-Men ’97’ssecond season does not undo all that its first season achieved.
X-Men ’97season 1 can be streamed on Disney+.
