Sonic The Hedgehog 2just received its first trailer at The Game Awards 2021 and it revealed Knuckles for the very first time, leading people to wonder if he is a bad guy and who voices him in the movie.
Video game movies have typically been very poorly regarded by critics and fans alike, butSonic The Hedgehogsurprised a lot of people when it was released in 2019.
Fans were even more excited for a sequel with how the movie ended, including the tease of Tails. He isn’t the only big character from the games to be showing up this time though, as Knuckles is going to be playing a big part as well inSonic The Hedgehog 2.
Who Voices Knuckles InSonic The Hedgehog 2?
Sonic the Hedgehogcast Ben Schwartz in the role of Sonic himself and it turned out very well, as he was able to capture just what fans wanted from the character.
Rather than a recast like with Sonic, the mid-credits tease for Tails used Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who many people thought would be replaced with a bigger name for the sequel. However, it was just confirmed that O’Shaughnessey would be reprising the role inSonic the Hedgehog 2.
That brings us to Knuckles, where they decided to bring on a Hollywood superstar in the form of Idris Elba.
Idris Elba is known for many roles over the years, with Knuckles set to be an interesting one. When he was asked about the role itself, he made a point to say his turn as Knuckles would not be sexy.
For anyone that has been playing the Sonic games since the Genesis days, you will know the origins of Knuckles came inSonic The Hedgehog 3.
In that game, Knuckles was tricked into thinking Sonic and Tails were bad guys, so he served as an antagonist until he turned good inSonic & Knuckles.
From what we can tell, it looks like they are taking a similar route withSonic the Hedgehog 2here as well. We already saw his species, the Echidnas, in the first game going after Sonic’s adoptive mother, but we haven’t seen more out of them.
InSonic the Hedgehog 2, Dr. Robotnik, as played by Jim Carrey, returns from his exile and it seems he has brought Knuckles with him based on the trailer.
Robotnik will definitely be using Knuckles to fight Sonic during the movie as we saw in the trailer, with him likely turning good when all is said and done.
It’ll be curious to see if this is a conflict that will last the whole movie or if Knuckles turns to the side of good earlier on for an inevitable final battle with the trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles able to go up against him.
