If you’ve been followingInvincible, you already know that Kid Omni-Man, also known as Oliver Grayson, is a very intriguing character. As Mark Grayson’s half-brother, Oliver has a mix of Viltrumite and Thraxan DNA, which makes him a formidable fighter. He learns fast, improves rapidly, and has a strong sense of justice, though his approach can be a little too intense.

In the comics, Oliver consistently struggles against stronger opponents, while Mark keeps leveling up. No matter how much potential Oliver has, he will never truly surpass Mark in power. Why? Let’s break it down!

Human DNA is Mark Grayson’s secret weapon

The Viltrumites are an insanely powerful warrior race, but guess what?Their closest DNA relatives are humans. This means that human-Viltrumite hybrids, like Mark Grayson, inherit their Viltrumite strength while also benefiting from human traits that make them even more adaptable.

Oliver Grayson, on the other hand, is part Thraxan, a species with a much weaker physiology. The Thraxans are a fragile race, and while Oliver’s Viltrumite side elevates him far beyond them, he still doesn’t have the same raw potential as Mark.

Robert Kirkman’s Invincible has changed superhero genre

Thraxans don’t have the kind of durability, endurance, or adaptability that humans do. Their shorter lifespans also mean that their bodies function differently. While Oliver is still stronger than Thraxans and can live for thousands of years in his prime, he doesn’t have the same limitless ceiling as Mark.

The best example? Mark keeps getting stronger the more he fights. He adapts to his enemies, pushes through pain, and even when he’s on the brink of death, his body finds ways to recover. This is partly due to adrenaline, a human-specific advantage that boosts strength and survival instincts in extreme situations. Oliver, being part Thraxan, doesn’t benefit from this in the same way.

Oliver Grayson gets wrecked a lot

In the comics, Oliver’s fighting record isn’t exactly impressive. While he has solid combat skills and his Viltrumite genetics make him a threat, he tends to lose… a lot. Unlike Mark, who eventually holds his own against even the most elite Viltrumites, Oliver constantly struggles against stronger opponents.

In the comicswhen Oliver fightsConquest, speculated to be voiced by Jonathan Banks, he gets utterly destroyed. Mark Grayson also struggles against Conquest since he is one of the most brutal and seasoned Viltrumites. But, eventually, Mark kills him after a long, brutal fight.

This isn’t just because Oliver is younger and less experienced, it’s because his genetic makeup simply doesn’t allow him to reach Mark’s level. Another key difference? Mark’s willpower. Time and again, Mark proves that his ability to push through pain and suffering is what makes him a true powerhouse. Oliver, while determined, doesn’t have that same resilience.

At the end of the day, Oliver is a great character with tons of potential. He’s fast, strong, and intelligent, but he will never surpass Mark Grayson. Mark’s hybrid DNA, his ability to adapt, and his sheer willpower make him an unstoppable force in the Invincible universe. Oliver may be Kid Omni-Man, but when it comes to raw strength, Mark will always be the true Omni-Man successor.
