X-Men ‘97: Dissecting Beau DeMayo’s Controversial Departure

Beau DeMayo was going through a particularly hectic period at Marvel Studios earlier in March. The writer-producer was getting ready for the premiere ofX-Men ‘97, the Disney+ series he developed as a revival of cult favorite Fox Kids program,X-Men: The Animated Series(1992–1997).

Also, he had wrapped up his writing forX-Men ’97’ssecond season, was arranging press, and was preparing to go to the show’s March Hollywood premiere, we learned fromTHR. He was even kicking around ideas for a third season with his teammates.

Marvel and DeMayo, however, abruptlycalled it quitslater that month. The cast and crew were notified that he was no longer working on the project, and his company email was disabled. DeMayoremoved his Instagramaccount, which was once a source ofX-Mennews.

Anyway, fans are sticking with the show in the hopes that it can still live up to the hype, even in the face of disappointment. However, with DeMayo’s mysterious departure and no word from the actors involved, it seems that the future of X-Men ‘97 remains a conundrum.

We also can’t deny the fact that, without his leadership, the series may struggle to live up to its potential. The first two episodes ofX-Men ’97debuted on July 15, 2025. Up until May 15, the remaining ten episodes of the first season will be released every week.
