Akira Toriyama is no doubt a genius who has contributed a lot to the anime and manga industries as a whole. Akira Toriyama has been drawing manga for many decades, but when it came toDragon Ball Super,he decided to take a rest and change. He passed the mantle down to his assistant and started focusing on the brainstorming aspect.

WhenDragon Ball Superintroduced theFuture Trunks Arc,it very quickly became one of the most intense and unique storylines in the franchise. Not only was it unbelievably filled with narratives, but it also added a new and unique flavor to the series.
Toriyama’s original draft of the ‘Future Trunks Arc’ shocked Toyotarou
Many fans don’t realizejust how wild Akira Toriyama’s original draft was; it seemed so much so that even Toyotarou, his successor, was shocked when he first read it.
Toriyama’s goal for the arc was to change things up and do something to keep the fans hooked and in disbelief. One of the biggest surprises was the introduction of an evil god, something that the usual person cannot comprehend.

Even Toyotarou had initially found it hard to grasp. Even back then, Toriyamahad the intention to mentor Toyotarou to be his successor. But even with Dragon Ball since, traditionally, the gods were seen as benevolent and kind.
I had thought of gods as being absolutely good, so having one of them turn evil raised the tension. The sense of tension flowing from the story from that point onward was incredible.

So when Toriyama wrote in a draft, an evil god being the main antagonist, it was quite a shocker to his assistant, Toyotarou, who has now taken over the creation of furtherDragon Ballstories.

Another part that was quite surprising was that the arc’s setting was from a future without Dragon Balls, which were the base of the show.
Zamasu’s and Goku Black’s surprising origins
Zamasu was unlike any villain Dragon Ball had seen before. Unlike the pure evil characters like Frieza or Majin Buu, who seem to be obvious villains due to their past actions and intentions, Zamasu’s ideology stemmed from an extreme sense of righteousness.
There is a sense of gray, and Toriyama seemed to wish to convey that sometimes, people are right and wrong.Toriyama stated in an interview-

The villains of Dragon Ball are typically absolutely evil, so there’s nothing wrong with defeating them, but Zamasu was a slightly more complicated case of “warped justice.”
One of the other fascinating aspects is the innovation of Goku Black. Goku is the protagonist who has been said to be incorruptible and extremely righteous. But Toriyama said that he always wanted to do a “False Son Goku” story, similar to “False Ultraman.”

This idea led to the creation of Goku Black, a fan-favorite villain who is a smarter, more refined, and sinister being who is both loved and hated by the fans.
