AHelldivers 2fan has potentially made an exciting discovery. A few weeks ago,Helldivers 2had yet another major in-game event. After destroying the Automaton faction months ago and celebrating a hard-won victory, things soon ramped up when the bots returned.
While this was happening, the Terminid faction had created a destructive Super Colony on the planet Meridia, one of the four “barrier worlds” between bug space and the glorious Super Earth. Players were tasked with wiping out the colony, which was achieved by pumping the planet full of an experimental formula and turning it into a black hole.
Something is Amiss With The Black Hole
That brings us to today, when the war against the bug threat continues. With the Super Colony destroyed, players have been tasked with clearing the surrounding worlds of Terminids while it is all quiet on the Automaton Front. However, there is another threat that has been looming over the beautiful Federation of Super Earth since day one: the mysterious enemies from the firstHelldivers (2015),the so-called Illuminate.

The Illuminate are said to be a highly advanced race of intelligent aliens that employ energy weapons and shields. One player thinks they may have found some evidence of their impending return within the deep, dark abyss of theMeridian Black Hole. Reddit user Mich_angry shared their findings in an all-too-relatable post. Mich-Angry describes their strange habit of spending some time each day staring at the black hole when they noticed some mysterious orbs of light that seem to be coming out of the hole.

Though they do admit to being tired (“it was about 3 AM“), an experience that everyone can understand, they did share some screenshots to alleviate concerns.

The images are definitely strange, and it is undeniable that there is something going on with the black hole.
What Does This Mean For The Future of Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2Players have long theorised that the black hole could in fact be a wormhole to some faraway galaxy that the Illuminate will use to make their way to our galaxy for a surprise assault. It has also been noted that when observing the Meridian black hole, strange whale-like sounds can be heard emitting from the darkness. This, combined with the recent development of the mysterious orbs of light, certainly seems to be cause for concern.
Outside of some leaked screenshotsand in-game mentions, there has not been much official word from Arrowhead Game Studios about the Illuminates potential return. Chief Executive Officer and former CEO Johan Pilestedt joked with players on X back in May aboutnew faction teases. If this really is a hint at things to come, Arrowhead might not be ready to spill the beans just yet; they probably weren’t expecting players to find this so soon.
