The Penguinhas managed to become one of the most well-received superhero shows of the year. With its complex morality and fleshed-out characters, the show has created a cultural phenomenon that is tethering the line between genre fiction and superhero classics. However, despite great performances and unforgettable characters, there is one thing that is holding the show back from entering the Superhero Hall of Fame.

Doctor Julian Rush, played by Theo Rossi, is a character that fans are sort of confused about. While Sofia, Salvatore, Oswald, Francis, and Victor are all characters that fans have found a way to get interested in, Julian Rush remains the one character that no one really wants to know about. Apart from being a creepy lover/ex-doctor to Sofia Gigante, fans cannot see a real reason for the character to exist in the story.

Fans on Reddit really want to know why Julian Rush is part of the story at all

Fans on Reddit are wondering why Julian Rush is part of the narrative ofThe Penguin. A slew of fan theories had been swirling that the character was actually a hallucination that Sofia has, given that he is seen interacting with just the character in every episode. However, as that theory also stands dispelled, fans are a little more than confused about why he is in the story at all.

There has been a lot of talk about why the character exists in the story, and with just one episode remaining, fans are really wondering what possible revelation the guy could have for him to be a part of the plot. Audiences have seen him interact with other characters, albeit indirectly, which means that he cannot be the hallucination that people were expecting him to be. It remains to be seen if the final episode can shed some light on it.

The Penguin’s finale needs to have a Batman cameo

So far, the narrative ofThe Penguinhas been pretty self-contained, with the repercussions of the film feeding directly into the beginning of the story. However, without the presence of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, there seems to be something missing from the grounded universe ofThe Batman. Given that the version of the character created by Matt Reeves is pretty grounded, the appearance of Batman will go a long way in re-centering the franchise into the superhero genre.

“He has a crush on her”: The Batman’s Deleted Scene is the Reason We Need Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman Cameo in The Penguin Finale

Further,The Penguincould directly lead intoThe Batman‘s sequel, it is not necessary that the cameo isRobert Pattinson‘s Batman itself. There are plenty of characters in the film who could make a cameo, just to tie the story into the upcoming narrative with a familiar face. It could be Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, coming back to Gotham for whatever reason, especially with her father, Carmine Falcone, dead.
