Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2’s latest Hotfix 5.1 has finally addressed a major bug from Patch 5.0. There was an issue with the parry mechanic that left the community divided. Initially dismissed as a “skill issue” by some in the community, the patch confirms the problem was, in fact, a bug.

Saber Interactive has luckily spotted it and has once again given the community a swift fix just in time for Christmas. The combat balance has been restored now and players can finally test their newly fixed parries against the Tyranid swarms.
Space Marine 2fans thought they were being tricked
The parry bug has been a hot topic in theSpace Marine 2subreddit. Many in the community initially dismissed these complaints as skill issues, but some users pointed out the inconsistency in parries, especially against enemies attacking from behind or off-screen. Others claimed they noticed no difference.

The issue became more clear as players found themselves unable to parry reliably, particularly with Fencing weapons which require tight timing. Hotfix 5.1 now makes it so the parry window operates as intended, restoring balance to one of the game’s core mechanics.
Alongside the parry fix, Hotfix 5.1 targeted several other problems introduced in Patch 5.0. Notably, players had reported input issues on PC, such as abilities failing to activate or control mappings resetting. These bugs were less discussed than the parry problem but have been fixed for those who did encounter it.

Blocking weapons also received a minor adjustment in this hotfix, followingthe major rework introduced in Patch 5.0. Previously considered underpowered, Blocking weapons now accumulate melee damage buffs when blocking attacks. This change makes Blocking weapons a more viable option in combat, especially for players seeking an alternative to the parry-centric playstyle that has dominatedSpace Marine 2.

Saber Interactive has once again brought peace to the community
The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with players expressing relief that their frustrations were validated. One user humorously reflected on the backlash against complaints, stating,“Man, it’s so funny looking back at all the ‘parry wasn’t bugged, you guys just aren’t doing it right’ comments.”
Despite the fix, some players have still reported lingering issues, such as parries failing under specific conditions, like consecutive hits without movement. Others say that the 360-degree parry for Fencing weapons still feels inconsistent, particularly when facing simultaneous attacks from multiple directions.

While Hotfix 5.1 resolves the most significant problems, developers will likely need further fine-tuning to address the more nuanced player concerns raised since the patch.Players are hopeful for future updates, particularly with reworks to weapon perks and class abilities teased for early 2025.
Patch 5.0 itself had brought a number of changes toSpace Marine 2, including balance tweaks and new content like the Obelisk Operation and Dark Angels Chapter Pack. Hotfix 5.1 demonstrates Saber Interactive’s commitment to addressing community feedback and maintaining a balanced, enjoyable experience for players.
