While missing out on two iconic characters of the likes of Superman and Geralt of Rivia was a big blow for both fans and Cavill, Henry Cavill is up and running in no time. Following his reunion withKingsmandirector Matthew Vaughn, with whom he previously worked on the 2007 fantasyStardust, Cavill has nothing but positive to say about the new chapter of his career.

Henry Cavill as Argylle

Even thoughArgylleis far from Vaughn and Cavill’s finest works, theMOSStar’s experience in the peculiar spy comedy was great, as he enjoyed his departure from playing stoic roles.

Henry Cavill Is Loving His Departure From Stoic Characters

JoiningMatthew Vaughnon theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast,Henry Cavillcommended Vaughn, as he allowed Cavill to play characters, something that wasn’t the case for his previous roles. TheMOSStar stressed that while a lot of people in the past only wanted to be a certain thing, especially stoic, this wasn’t the case inArgylle, as Vaughn gave him the freedom to be a bit more loose.

“One of the great things is Matthew allows me to be characters, which a lot of people don’t… they want me to be a certain thing. And so, I’m really enjoying acting more now, being a bit more loose and enjoying playing something… left of stoic.”

Although Cavill didn’t directly mention the projects he was implying, it’s reasonable to assume it had to do with the two characters that he was known for best, Superman and Geralt. While having him stoically play Geralt is understandable, pushing Cavill to play a stoic Superman added to the failure of the DCEU, as it was a far cry from the definitive version of the character. So it’s reasonable to see why Cavill might’ve not been a fan of playing a stoic Man of Steel, especially considering he is the beacon of hope and not a brooding figure like Batman.

“I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history…Wow, could you imagine remaking Red Son with Henry Cavill? That would be an interesting movie…”
