Elden Ring‘sShadow of The ErdtreeDLC was undoubtedly amazing and is one of the best DLCs ever made. But that’s not to say that it didn’t have any issues. While the whole world loved our lengthy side adventure into the Land of Shadow, there are some things to nitpick at.

The DLC introduced many new features. It gave us a new world full of new mechanics, weapons, and armor. However, in its attempt to make more weapon types, for example, FromSoft overlooked the actual depth of the new weapons. The Smithscript throwing weapons are the best example of this.
Some Parts of The Shadow of The Erdtree DLC Are Very Underutilized
One of the biggest things that fans looked forward to in theShadow of The ErdtreeDLC were all the new weapon types and weapons promised to us. And we did get them, butsome of them have been underwhelming, to say the least.
The Smithscript weapons were introduced in theShadow of The ErdtreeDLC and are the prime example. They are throwable versions of regular weapons like daggers, spears, hammers, etc. The concept of it is amazing but its implementation has been a bit lackluster, according to players.

From Elden Ring To Ghost of Tsushima, Here Are the 5 Most Beautifully Designed Video Game Worlds
The dagger has some issues that make it nearly unusable in practical gameplay. Its short range and massive damage fall-off render it ineffective compared to other weapons. This has led players to question its purpose.
Players have noted that the dagger’s range is shorter than even some melee weapons, which defeats the purpose of having a ranged attack in the first place. Additionally, the damage fall-off is so severe that even when the dagger does hit, it often deals negligible damage.

The Issue With These Weapons Highlights Something About The DLC
The issues with the Smithscript Dagger are part of a bigger and more systematic issue withinElden Ring‘s DLC. While players were given a variety of new weapons, many of them had similar problems. Players have noted that several of the new weapon types have limited functionality or are overshadowed by existing options.
“She’s blind and is using that to…”: Hidetaka Miyazaki Didn’t Miss During Elden Ring as Fans Uncover Malenia Lore That Was Right in Front of Us All Along
Prior to the release of the DLC, Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted thatShadow of The Erdtreewould be the one and only DLCforElden Ring. So players hoping for these issues to be fixed in a large and meaningful way like a second DLC might be a bit too hopeful.
Some players have even suggested that the weapon’s flaws are a sign of rushed development as if it was included in the DLC without proper balancing or testing. Whether or not this is the case, it is clear that the weapon has not lived up to its potential.

The trailer for the DLC gave us hope for new playstyles with these weapons. And while we do have that to an extent, they’re not nearly as fleshed out as we might’ve hoped.
What do you think? Did FromSoft leave room on the table for more with these weapons? Let us know in the comments!
