AmidstBleach’snumerous interesting characters, one figure stands out the most, not because of his wonderful strength or complicated past but because he is a character creator Tite Kubo regrets drawing. He’s none other than the brutal and mysterious captain of the 11th Division in the Gotei 13, Zaraki Kenpachi!

Even though he is already an overpowered and quite popular character, Kubo’s regret reasons are yet more amusing than one would expect. A character commentary from the past had shed some light on the interesting opinions Kubo had regarding Kenpachi. So why exactly Zaraki Kenpachi, the mighty warrior, is the one character Kubo wishes he had done differently?

A 2004 character commentaryby Tite Kubo himself, shared some of his interesting thoughts regarding some of the most memorableBleachcharacters, including the feared captain of the 11th Division, Zaraki Kenpachi. Tite Kubo was an Absolute Genius for Trashing the Worst Anime Trope that Would Forever Make Bleach a Superior Anime
Kubo’s confession on Kenpachi was rather shocking and hilarious. He revealed that, aside from Tousen Kaname, Kenpachi has the toughest hairstyle to draw. With this somewhat insightful revelation, Kubo brought out the minute considerations that mangakas go through while creating some of your fan-favorite characters.
Tied with Tousen Kaname, out of the BLEACH characters, he has the hardest hair style to draw. I think I’ll continue to regret eternally for giving him that hair style.

The response from the audience was quite telling, as people laughed at the fact that Kenpachi’s untidy hairstyle remained one of the major regretful factors of the creator! However, this lighthearted confession at the same time also managed to highlight Kubo as a human after all. Behind the epic battles and dramatic storylines, even the smallest details, like a character’s hairstyle, can become quite a challenge for artists like Kubo himself.
Kenpachi Is Not The Only Case Where Kubo Regretted About His Artistic Choices
Tite Kuboconfessed in aninterview, that he wasn’t much of a fan of making the Shinigami look traditionally Japanese. Actually, he didn’t want them in kimonos in the first place! He wanted to create something unique with different styling, unlike the other Shonen series. He did his trials by adding aesthetics like long-sleeved sweater-like effects, that flow from the edges, trying different kinds of designs that give it a unique look.
Initially I wasn’t all that interested in a traditional Japanese look, so it was hard at the start, but I got used to it.

Kubo aimed to have magnificently beautiful action scenes where the clothes of his characters could flow along. Although he often struggled with traditional Japanese aesthetics at the beginning, he managed to make it his own and bring out an iconic Shinigami design. This later turned out to become a perfect mix between tradition and style of the modern age, a brand in itself for theBleachseries.
