Hunter Schafer rose to fame for her role as Jules Vaughn, a trans girl onEuphoria. It was her breakout role and an important one too, not just for Schafer but for many within the LGBTQ+ community since representation comes with the price of stereotypes usually.
Since then, the actress has slowly carved a niche for herself, and she is now one of the most vocal artists in the industry. However, Schafer has reached a point where she is selective about the roles she picks. As a consequence, she has turned down several trans roles that were offered to her.
Why did Hunter Schafer turn down trans roles?
Hunter Schaferknew she was trans when she experienced gender dysphoria when she was a teenager. A year later, she transitioned, which marked the start of her journey.

However, she caught the eye of the public in 2016 when, at the age of 17, she became the youngest plaintiff tofile a lawsuit against North Carolina’s House Bill 2. The bill discriminated against trans people from using public restrooms since their gender identity did not match their gender assigned at birth.
Three years later, Schafer made her acting debut onEuphoriaalongsideZendaya, playing a trans girl in high school. She won numerous awards and accolades, but the actress feels she has come a long way since playing Jules on screen.
In her recent interview forGQ, Schafer opened up about turning down several offers to play a trans character again. She feels she is more than just her identity, going so far as to say that she feels apprehensive to use the word ‘trans’ anymore.
“As soon as I say it, it gets blastoff. It took a while to learn that, and it also took a while to learn that I don’t want to be [reduced to] that, and I find it ultimately demeaning to me and what I want to do. Especially after high school, I was sick of talking about it. I worked so hard to get to where I am, past these really hard points in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and finally move on,”she said.

Schafer’s new interview for GQ gives a peek into the life of the star. She is as candid as ever, speaking about a past relationship that she had been hesitant to speak about previously.
Shewas in a relationship with Dominic Fike, which was quite publicized at the time. They met while shooting the HBO show together, but broke up in 2023.
However, before she dated Fike, she briefly dated musician Rosalia in 2019. While they are no longer together, the actress is still friends with the musician.“I have really beautiful friendships with people that I was once romantically involved with,”she said (via GQ).

Schafer is slowly establishing herself as an actress to keep an eye out for. She is immensely talented,and an activist to boot, lending her voice to several causes. As of now, there is no word on when the third season ofEuphoriawill go into production, but the show is available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
