He continued:

So I really like that playfulness, because what it means to me is that every morning that I show up and get to see the players, I have no idea what’s going to happen, where our conversations might lead, what the players are thinking about.

According to Probst,Survivorthrives on the creativity of its players, and if the producers like their ideas, they try to incorporate it in the game. This not only allows a fresh approach to the game but also makes it more flexible than other shows. While some elements ofSurvivorare also scripted, because of this spontaneity, it does add some randomness to the show.

My Achilles’ heel for a lot of my life was that nobody saw me as a storyteller, that they saw me as a white guy with dark hair who was just a game show host. And that in terms of my own self-image was the thing that could gut me. It was like a kidney punch.

So, he felt disconnected and even questioned his future in the show revealing that he’d leaveSurvivorafter 20 seasons. However, by a stroke of luck, the CBS network got to know about his struggles and encouraged him to take a break.
