TheHellboyfranchise had seen several big-screen adaptations, and while Guillermo del Toro’s films were loved by fans, the last reboot failed to meet their expectations.

Many would be wondering if the famed horror filmmaker will try to make anotherHellboymovie to close the saga to a trilogy, but comic book creator Mike Mignola believes del Toro won’t attempt to do so.

Mike Mignola createdHellboyin 1993 for Dark Horse Comics. It gained worldwide fame after its big-screen adaptation withRon Perlmanas the titular character. When asked if he thinks del Toro will pick up the title anytime soon, Mignola replied (viaForbes): “I just can’t see him coming back to doing Hellboy again.”
Working on several upcoming projects such asFrankenstein,The Buried Giant, andScary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2, the filmmaker has got his hands full. Mignola regrets that del Toro won’t be able to finish his trilogy. “It was kind of a dream thing, but I don’t think it was ever realistic,” says the comic book artist, later adding how expensive it would be to make a sequel with such scanty profit from the past two films.

Hellboy is given another chance to introduce himself to the new generation of fans. WithJack Kesyin the lead, the current iteration adapts a fan-favorite storyline from the comics. Mignola is happy with the outcome of the movie. “All my favorite scenes from The Crooked Man are in there,” he said. The previousHellboymovies had their own thing, but Mignola claimed that the 2024 version is “the most faithful film.”
