However, Cox appears to be a lot more modest behind the scenes, so much so that he didn’t even care about preparing an acceptance speech for a potential award at the 2024 Emmy Awards for the portrayal of one of the most iconic and shrewd characters the television scene has seen in recent times.

What Succession Star Brian Cox Did Heading Into the 2024 Emmys

Successionended last year after four incredible seasons, with Roy’s family members, including Shiv (Sarah Snook), making some heavy choices after the sudden death of Waystar CEO, Logan Roy.

However, before the lead character was taken off the screen,Brian Coxhad done enough to earn a nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the 75th Emmy Awards. He was in the running for the award alongside co-stars (and on-screen sons)Kieran Culkinand Jeremy Strong.

It would have certainly been interesting to see an unprepared Cox receive the award – akin to Emma Stone, who had very limited (and cohesive) words to say in her acceptance speech after winning the Critics Choice Award forPoor Things.

However, that opportunity never arrived as Culkin beat theTroystar to bag the major award. Hilariously, Culkin and Cox shared a kiss as the former stood up to collect his award.

Why Jeremy Strong Didn’t Join Brian Cox and Other Succession Stars at the Emmys

Cox didn’t make any speech but he took to the stage at the Peacock Theater, asSuccessionwon the award for Best Drama Series. All major cast members of the HBO drama were present to accept the award apart from Jeremy Strong.

Strong, who played Kendall Roy, was also absent when the nominations for Best Actor were announced, much toSuccessionfans’ surprise.

Creator of the series, Jesse Armstrong revealed the reason behind Strong’s absence was his professional commitment, stating (viaParade):

“Hello to Jeremy Strong, who is making a movie. And hello to [executive producer] Lucy Prebble, who has made a baby. We send our love to both of them.”

Overall, the drama about the Roy family feud enjoyed a prolific night, taking him a total of six awards.
