Hugh Granthates the internet.
In an interview withVariety, Grant explained one of the reasons he loathes the World Wide Web. His story starts during the press tour forWonka. During a big press conference with the wholecast, someone asked if they had enjoyed making the film.
“Everyone said, ‘Yes, we loved it. We loved it. We loved it. And when they got to me, just for a comedy moment at the end, I said, ‘I hated it.’” [To him, it was obviously a joke.] “But on the web, it’s become a fact that I hated making that film. And I didn’t hate it at all; I loved making it. I’m absolutely thrilled with it. That’s what the internet does. It scrubs humor, and it scrubs context to create little clickbait moments. It’s one of the reasons I loathe it with such violence, really.”

What Is Hugh Grant Working On Next?
The 2020s have been busy for Hugh Grant. In 2023 and 2024 alone, he appeared inseventotal projects.
10 Best D&D Video Games, Ranked
From Baldur’s Gate to Icewind Dale, here are our picks from the greatest games set in the D&D universe.
The stand-out projects from that list—D&D,Wonka, andHeretic— all have one thing in common: Grant plays against type.

For so long, he was just therom-comguy. A handsome, charming Englishman audiences loved to watch fall in love.Honor Among Thieveslet Grant be a charmer but also the dastardly villain.Wonkalet him be, of all things, the orange-skinned, green-haired Oompa Loompa. It was not a leading-man kind of role. And then inHeretiche goes chillingly sociopathic and plays the “monster” in a horror movie.
He was so convincing inHereticthat he earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.

So what’s next? Surprisingly, a return to his former rom-com ways. Grant has one movie slated for 2025, and that’sBridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. He returns as Daniel Cleaver. This is the third Bridget Jones movie Grant will star in, but the first since 2004’sThe Edge of Reason. The character was absent from 2016’sBridget Jones’s Baby. So we’ll see how the franchise works Mr. Grant back into things.
For those of you who want more of Hugh Grant’s darker side, we’ll have to see what materializes in 2025. Personally, I’m really hoping for another A24 project. Maybe we’ll hear some casting news soon.
