How to Keep Rolan Alive
Rolan has a questthat spans the entirety of the game, but only requires a few simple steps to complete. He is first found in the Emerald Grove just past where you meet one of thegame’s first merchants, Arron.
When you first meet Rolan, he will want to leave the Emerald Grove, but you should convince him to stay. Afterward, verify you side with the Emerald Grove and destroy the Goblin Camp, as this will keep everyone alive.
When you reach Act II, Rolan can be found behind the bar at the Last Light Inn. He will be upset because his siblings were taken, and will ultimately blame you.
After speaking with Rolan, it is best to avoid speaking with Isobel, as this will trigger the attack on the Last Light Inn, leading to a chance for Rolan to die. If you do trigger the attack, be sure to keep him alive.
After leaving the inn, make your way to the Shadowed Battlefield section of the map and head south. Rolan can be found south of the bridge that leads to the Tollhouse. As you approach, Rolan will get attacked by several Shadows.
The Shadows can only be seen in the light, so it is important to carry a torch with you or cast a form of light. This way, the party will be able to locate the Shadows and take them down quickly. The Blood of Lathanderis a great weapon for this fight because it casts light, and the Shadows are weak to Radiant damage.
After helping Rolan here, you can move on to completing the rest of the quests in Act II, as you won’t need to worry about Rolan dying any longer.
If you have kept Rolan alive up to this point, when you move on to Act III, you will find him at Sorcerous Sundries, and he will sell you the Ring of Regeneration instead of Lorroakan’s Projection.
