TheGuilty Gear Strivefinal beta before release started, and several players are encountering the Failed to Download R Code error, here’s what the error means and what you should do.
First it’s important to understand what the error means. This is the error you get when theGuilty Gear StriveBeta servers are overloaded. Right now, Arc System Works just launched the Beta, so everyone is trying to get in at the same time, which saturated the servers.
There is no particular fix besides trying again and again to connect to the servers. Most streamers ofGGSTon Twitch, including Evo champs likeOmitoorEmpress Romollaare bidding their time in Training Mode. The only thing you can do is wait.
Didn’t Arc System Work say they’ll fix the online and the lobby, why is this happening?
Well, yeah, the previousGuilty Gear StriveBeta had similar problems, and it’s happening again. It’s important to note that at the same time, this is what the Beta is for, stress testing the servers.
Hopefully at launch, the servers will be buffed up and we won’t be having this issue anymore. Arc System Works already put in so much work in the rollback netcode, it’d be a real shame if it goes all to waste simply because they can’t get servers with big enough capacity for launch.
It’s also important to note the previous Beta was eventually extended. It’s possible Arc System Works will extend this new Beta as well. You should keep an eye on the official Twitter.

TheGuilty Gear StriveBeta servers opened on May 13 at 11 PM ET, and it’s currently scheduled to last till May 16 10:59 AM ET. The full game will be out on PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam on June 23, 2025.

Arc System Works explained on Twitter theGuilty Gear StriveBeta is currently unplayable online (due to the failed to download r code error) and is working on a fix.
Update (May 14, 1:30 ET)
It looks like the failed to download r code server issue and saturation has been fixed as it’s now much easier to connect.
