Compared to the bosses thatyou faced in chapters three and four,Black Myth Wukong’sfifth chapter takes a while to get going, and the bosses you face are a cakewalk by all accounts.

However, when you reach the Emerald Hall, you’ll be forced to take on the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains, a boss that provides a much stiffer challenge than the bosses that have come before this chapter.

Keeper of Flaming Mountains Boss in Black Myth Wukong

How to Prepare For The Keeper of Flaming Mountains

The Keeper of Flaming Mountains boss is a rather gimmicky boss that doesn’t like to do much fighting themselves, instead relying on minions to do the work for them. So, with this in mind, you’ll want a build that is equipped for fighting multiple enemies, but equally, one that is robust enough to survive the second phase of this fight.

This is the ideal buildthat I would suggest players run for the fight against the Keeper of Flaming Mountains:

Visionary Centipede Staff

Serpentscale Battlerobe

Wandering Wight

Weaver’s Needle

Transformation

Gold Spikeplate

Gold Sun Crow

Jade Moon Rabbit

If you have the materials, I would highly suggest that youupgrade the Serpentscale Battlerobefor this fight, as this battle takes place in water, and this armor provides significant buffs when players are standing in water, making it an obvious choice. However, if you don’t upgrade it, the defense stats are hard to justify, and theCentipede Qiang-Jin Armoris the better choice.

Then, outside of the gear listed above, I would also suggest that playersunlock and upgrade their Mobile Spin, as there are several annoying archer enemies that you will need to take out in the beginning phase of this fight.

Then, lastly, just before this fight, you will find a room just before the Emerald Hall Shrine near where you encounter the two giant enemies, and you’ll be able to fully upgrade yourHealing Gourdin this room. So be sure to upgrade before entering this fight.

How To Beat The Keeper of Flaming Mountains

The fight will begin with the player up against the Keeper of Flaming Mountains on their own, and you’ll immediately find that they are really flimsy. They have next to no counterattacks of note, so you can spend this opening stage chaining heavy attacks, spells, and combos.

You want to do as much damage as possible here, as they will disappear after a short period and will be invulnerable until you take out a wave of enemies.

This first wave will consist of basic undead enemies, and a series of archer enemies lined along the arena’s edges. The best thing to do is leave Zhu Bajie to fight the fodder enemies in the middle and rush off to deal with the Archers, as they are the real threat.

Use your Mobile Spin if needed to deflect incoming projectiles, and when they are taken down, head back into the middle of the area to mop up any remaining enemies.

After you defeat these enemies, the Keeper of Flaming Mountains will drop down into the center again, and this will begin another period where you can deal massive damage.

Again, deal as much as you may, and just before his health bar is fully depleted, he will rise to the unreachable area above once again, and will spawn a much more formidable enemy for you to deal with.

While I’m not 100% sure about this, it seems unlikely that you may rig the game to deplete their health bar before this second phase. So don’t waste your spells and transformations trying to end the fight prematurely.

This second enemy wave isn’t so much a wave as it is a mini-boss in the form of the Horse NPC you’ve likely encountered across the various chapters you have endured so far. They are a reasonable test as they have a long whip that can attack you from distance, meaning you can’t really back off for a breather at any time.

Plus, the combos are pretty fast and hard to dodge. However, if you use spells and heavy attacks to keep them staggered, you should get through this stage with little issue.

Throughout this stage, the Keeper of Flaming Mountains will cast projectiles every now and again, so attempt to keep one eye on them as you take on the various enemies.

After you defeat the Horse enemy, the second phase of this fight will commence, which is honestly when the real fight begins, as The Keeper of Flaming Mountains will turn into the Yin-Yang Fish.

This fish has a handful of melee attacks where it will slam its tail, slither toward you, and perform roll attacks. Making this stage a littlesimilar to the portions of the Zhu Bajie fightwhen they turn into a Sludge fish. However, the blunt force attacks aren’t all that much to worry about, as the fish’s main threat comes from the projectiles it casts at the player.

They will first let own a roar that will summon a series of water orbs around the arena, which are essentially like little landmines that damage the player if you come into contact with them, so do your best to move the fight to a safer area of the arena if possible.

Then, the fish will likely follow up on this by swimming into the air and casting a series of projectiles that home in on the player. These are particularly hard to dodge, and if one hits you, you’ll be locked in place, meaning every single one of them will hit you. This usually means you’ll lose 50% of your health. To avoid this,Cloud Stepis your friend.

Other than this attack though, they don’t have an awful lot that will trouble you. All you need to do is close the distance when they swim away as fast as you can. Use those close quarters moments to land as many heavy attacks as you can without being whacked with their tail.

Plus, keep your Cloud Step Spell in reserve for when they perform their projectile attack. If you do this, you’ll be one step closer to fulfilling your destiny.

Rewards for Beating The Keeper of the Flaming Mountains

If you manage to defeat the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains, you will receive the following rewards for your efforts:

The standout reward here is undoubtedly the Yin-Yang Daoist Robe, which is a unique piece of armor that allows you to alternate between two different combat approaches depending on how much HP you have.

If you have more than half health, you’ll have more defense but see a drop in your critical hit damage. But alternatively, when at low health, you’ll become a glass cannon with high damage output.

It’s not one that enticed me, in truth, but if you like a risk-and-reward playstyle, this may be a reward worth investing in.
