When Mark Anderson was initially seen inThe Bachelorseason 28, he already had fans swooning over him. With his warm demeanor and soft-spoken personality, fans were already rooting for him in ways more than one. This is why, when he made his debut inThe Golden Bacheloretteto win Joan Vassos’ heart, fans were already convinced of his ability to do so.

However, in what continues to be one of the most surprising turns of events for many – if not all –Bachelorfans, Anderson was let go by Vassos before her Hometown Dates. And yet, it seems like the one to blame for this fallout is none other than the retired Army general himself, since even his luxury yacht date with Vassos affirmed to her that he was still not ready to love again.

Mark Anderson to be Blamed for His Fallout with Joan Vassos?

A 58-year-old retired Army general, when Mark Anderson originally debuted onThe Golden Bachelorette,Joan Vassosseemed incredibly interested and excited to meet him. Then, just like fans envisioned, the pair seemed to find footing in the chemistry between them as well. But this spark proved to be short-lasting as Vassos’ elimination got to him before he could get to her heart.

Looking back, while it does seem surprising at first, closer inspection has been bringing about quite a lot of red flags in Anderson. The biggest one of them, for one, is that he just may not have been over his late beloved wife. For those unversed, he was happily married to Denise Anderson for 18 years before her tragic passing away following a short battle with cancer in 2018.

While he did hop on board the reality TV show to shoot a second chance at love, Anderson didn’t seem to have moved on from his wife at all. This was evident from how often he would bring her up. This even included one incident where, during his datewith Vassos, he talked about his late wife’s having long hair down to her calves when he met her.

When Vassos finally gave him a chance to shoot his shot at her by allowing him to take her out on a one-on-one date and he took her out on a luxury yacht date, fans were certain that he would finally win her heart. But that was hardly the case as what was meant to be a romantic voyage ended up being a rather awkward meeting as the pair spent most of their time in awkward silence.

If that wasn’t enough, something else further provedto Vassos that Anderson just may have been wasting her time on the show since he was clearly not over his ex-wife. This was the fact that the only time the couple spoke on the date, they trauma-bonded over their late spouses. This inevitably meant that, even though he held good intentions, Anderson still wasn’t ready to love again.

That being said, despite being one of the best choices for Joan Vassos to choose from because of his incredibly chivalrous nature and alluring aura, Mark Anderson lost his second chance at love and ended up leaving the show a week before Hometown Dates. Even then, he didn’t hesitate to let known that he wasthankful, hopeful, and feltblessedto be a part of the show.

Mark Anderson After His Elimination: “Thankful, Hopeful, and Feeling Blessed”

Of course, since they considered himone of the best choices for Joan Vassosto choose from as she made the decision to pick a partner to spend the sunset years of her life with, many fans were left truly shocked and devastated when Mark Anderson was eliminated. But the retired Army general himself, on the other hand, seems to be holding positive thoughts about his departure as well.

Taking to his Instagram handle@mark.t.anderson, he wrote:

I am thankful… I am hopeful… I feel blessed. I started a journey hopeful for a future. I departed with so much more than I started with. I am blessed to have met Joan, a radiant, and caring woman who stood tall and navigated this with poise and grace. I met this incredible group of men that have enriched the core of my being. Thank you for the encouragement and support that has been shared throughout this journey it has truly changed my life for the better!

Judging from his words, Anderson doesn’t sound to be all that affected by his elimination. But while that chapter is closed in both the actors’ lives, there’s speculation raging around that Anderson might be the next golden boy, succeeding Gerry Turner.
