It is no secret thatStar Warshas built itself up on telling stories about archetypical characters that follow a set journey. Based on Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, beat for beat, it is often the case thatStar Warsfeatures a certain type of protagonist at the center of its story.

Luke Skywalker essentially set the tone for what a Star Wars protagonist would look like. These footsteps were followed by characters like Cal Kestis, Rey, and even characters from Legends, like Galen Marek.

Han Solo has made a niche for himself in theStar Warsecosystem as well, one that has been filled by many a smuggler/ace pilot like Poe Dameron.
Further, there are characters like Din Djarin who have tried to capitalize on the popularity of Boba Fett, which has further been emulated by characters like Captain Phasma. Lone warriors of note serving the Empire but not necessarily part of its machinery can be traced to the prequels as well, with characters like Jango Fett.

Not to mention, given the state of these monomyths and the archetypes therein, Qui Gon, Obi-Wan, and the older Han Solo can all be put in the same boat as well.

These characters can be other archetypes in the monomyth, which could either differentiate themselves from the ones used or be bold and interesting new takes on these archetypes.

Said new takes must not, however, rely on shallow descriptors to make the characters interesting, but perhaps focus on playing around with the arcs that are expected to follow these characters around.
To start with, a badass old master who sticks around instead of sacrificing himself would be great. A genuine romance between the two leads, which has a happy ending when the story ends would also be a change of pace.
