AsHelldivers 2continues to face matchmaking issues and server disconnects, the game’s official Discord server was forced to enter a temporary lockdown due to the barrage of memes from the community.
Helldivers 2 is quite literally the definition of “suffering from success.” Since its launch onSteamandPlayStation 5just last week, the game has sold roughly one million copies, become the first PlayStation title to surpass both 100,000 and 200,000 concurrent players on Steam, and shot its way to the number one position on Steam’s top sellers list.

While it did initially receive mixed reviews on Steam due to a myriad of server issues at launch, developerArrowhead has been working tirelesslyto rectify the issues. After a plethora of new patch updates over the last seven days, Helldivers 2 now sits at a ‘mostly positive’ Steam rating, with almost 43,000 reviews.
Helldivers 2 Fans Cause Chaos On Discord
Despite the team’s best efforts to keep the Helldivers 2 servers stable, there have still been some hiccups. Themost recent issueoccurred in the early hours of this morning, with players around the world once again facing server disconnects and crashes. In response, players took to the Helldivers 2 Discord to spam “F”, a famous meme that originated from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
An announcement from a Discord moderator then stated that “spamming ‘F’ will result in an instant timeout, followed by a ban if done again after timeout.” Then, within a matter of minutes, the entire server was put on lockdown. “Server is on lock until further notice. Since a small minority of people can’t behave like adults and have decided to mass spam every channel to the point of making them unusable, you’ve now all lost the privilege to use the server for a few hours while we clean up,” a Discord moderator announced.
As you can imagine, this resulted in even more memes over on the Helldivers subreddit. One user even created amockup for a new in-game capewith the letter “F” on the back, with the description stating “Feels great, but you are immediately banned from Discord.” Others opted for a more mature response, with one user saying, “Y’all are blowing this way up. The Arrowhead Discord devs have been non-stop spammed with insane people for the last 144 hours. Please leave them alone.”
As for why Helldivers 2 has suffered such dire server issues, it essentially comes down to too many people playing at once. In astatementshortly after launch, Arrowhead’s CEO said that the team had increased the rate limit from 10,000 connections per minute to 20,000 connections, while also increasing the total capacity of concurrent players from 250,000 total to 360,000 total. But despite the massive increase, it only took a little over 5 minutes before the 360,000 capacity was reached.
While Helldivers 2 still has some connection issues to iron out, the Helldivers 2 Discord is now back up and running, with a fresh announcement apologizing for the inconvenience.
