No matter how great a show is or becomes over time, fans are bound to slander some or the other aspect of the same. Pleasing everyone with one thing is never truly possible either, so creators and actors alike tune out the noise when they believe in the work they have created.

Look at the brilliance ofModern Familyfor instance. Everything from the story to the casting is sheer ingenuity, yet fans focus on the aspects they find out of the ordinary.

Ed O’Neill’s character Jay Pritchett has been the recent target acquired by theModern Familyfandom and the comments are anything but positive. Makes us wonder how such a glorious character amasses so much hatred.

Why Jay Pritchett is one of the bestModern Familycharacters

Many fans have often commented how Jay (played byEd O’Neill) is not a good character because he’s rigid in his ways, acts grumpily half the time, or picks on Manny for his eccentricities. While most of the things are true, they are also what makes Jay such a holistic and well-rounded character inModern Family.

Jay practically started a new life when he married Gloria and adopted Manny as his son in his sixties. The business mogul managed to juggle his work, his past family, and his new family all at the same time. Though he fumbled in quite a few places, Jay always managed to come out on top as a strong and fierce character.

Right from the way he tries toadapt to Gloria’s way of lifeto how he inches closer to Mitch and Cam as the seasons progress, these moments only go to show how dedicated and supportive Jay has been for his family. Not only that, he’s pivotal in bringing Claire back into the workforce and even catapulting her career to newer heights.

Sure, Jay had his bullying moments with Phil and Manny but he also tried hard to make good with them and help them whenever necessary. Jay was initially the quintessential patriarch of the family, but he gradually became the go-to person for advice and help for everyone else inModern Family.

Moreover, with his growth throughout the series, whether it’s opening up to people or accepting the error of his ways, Jay exemplified a well-thought-out character.

Will there be aModern Familyreboot?

Like it’s the trend these days, shows are either getting a reboot or a rewatch podcast likeHow I Met Your Mother(which incidentally got both). Fans are hoping for the Modern Family cast to reunite for a laugh-filled movie or reboot, even though it’s just been 6 years since they signed off.

Sofia Vergararevealedthat she is fully open to the idea of returning for a Modern Family movie, provided O’Neill doesn’t diebefore then. The banter and exchange between the two actors is much like their on-screen counterparts.

The show deserves to go on for decades more, but only the creators and actors involved in the project can make such a tough decision. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Till then, stream the showModern Familyon Hulu.
