It’s easy to feel sorry for the Halo community at present, riding alongside an underwhelming live-action adaptation series at Paramount+, andHalo Infiniteis hanging on by a thread after making a significant comeback in the player count. At least the shooter’sCOD Zombies modeis breathing some life into the title.
It wasreportedback in January that343 Industrieshad seemingly begun development on a new Halo game and made the switch over to the Unreal Engine 5 software. With few details to share, one nugget suggested the game had been in the works since 2022, and Art Director, Justin Dinges, also added that he worked on ‘Halo’s next unannounced release’ between April 2022 and March 2023 onLinkedIn.

Halo Infinite Is A Game Utterly Without Hype
I can’t bring myself to care about endless Battle Passes.
This Fan-Made Unreal Engine 5 Halo Map Could Be A Preview Of What’s To Come
Canadian artist Ryan, also known as ‘UneeQ’, recently shared a series of map environments made in Unreal Engine for Fortnite to social media andArtStation. The artist recreated their own ‘Annamite’ map as a solo project, constructed with free community assets from Unreal Engine’s Marketplace. The designer said the objective of the build was to ‘refine a design I created for a multiplier map in Halo Infinite and adapt it to the Fortnite sandbox.’
Word of the design soon traveled to gaming insiders on X, and one content creator suggested the artist’s work could be a taste of what’s to come in Halo 7,saying‘Our first look at what Halo 7 multiplayer maps will look like in Unreal Engine?!…Great work UneeQ! I’d love to see you and other Forgers create maps in an Unreal Engine 5 Forge mode.’ The image of a ruined stone structure decorated with flora and tempting pools was compared to the artist’s original Halo map design in Forge, and the difference was staggering.

The fandom collectively thought the build looked ‘fantastic’ and provoked excitement for the unreleased Halo project being developed using the software. Some onlookers had reservations, however, and were curious about how a detailed map would perform. ‘Things will be scaled back graphically compared to this for gameplay reasons and fps targets’,assuredone user and another comment thought it would be ‘wild to see an actual tropical map based off silent cartographer’.
Despite being visually stunning, not every Halo fan was on board with the software’s clean-cut style. Oneuserwasn’t sure why ‘the vibe isn’t Halo’, and another had harsher words, saying‘Literally doesn’t look anything like a Halo game. Just another generic UE5 game.'

Halo 7 is likely a few years away from release, but it’s great to wonder what the next-generation shooter will possibly look like.
