Even though we have plenty of upcoming and exciting games likeHellblade 2and Star Wars Outlaws, 2025 is firmly on the radar ofGTA 6fans who have been patiently waiting for Rockstar to unearth its sixteenth entry into the wild world of Grand Theft Auto.

When asurprise trailerdropped in December last year, the overwhelming support for the much-anticipated title was at a fever pitch, and now, some fans believe that its main protagonist, Lucia, could be the franchise’s “greatest character ever”. While we know very little about this badass woman and her partner in love and crime, Jason, I have a few reservations given the series' lack of diversity over the years, but also hope that things will completely change with the introduction of Rockstar’s first fully realized female protagonist.

Rockstar Needs To Stay Away From Stereotypes When It Comes To Lucia

Over on Twitter/X, Grand Theft Auto enthusiastGameRollshared their opinion about how Lucia could potentially “be the best ever GTA protagonist, but also the greatest character that Rockstar Games has ever written”. This is certainly a refreshing stance to witness given the amount ofdiscourse surrounding the characterover the last few months.

“More I see of this game it makes the waiting time a lot harder” replied user@ISnak3I. Echoing this sentiment is@yamumslipper, replying “First woman GTA protagonist could be really special, give us the story through a lens that we’ve not seen before.”, with@violetdrifteradding, “charismatic and genuine woman as a playable GTA character is a dream come true”.

GTA 6 Fans Believe Lucia Has Potential To Be “Greatest Rockstar Character"

Unfortunately, even though the vast majority of comments in the thread were positive about Lucia becoming GTA 6’s main character, GameRoll did have toinclude a later messagehighlighting the number of people who “didn’t read/misunderstood the tweet, and raging sexists who refuse to believe that she’s going to be great because she’s a woman.”

Although Lucia isn’t technically Grand Theft Auto’s first female character, she is the studio’s first playable female protagonist who is completely fleshed out with the focus being almost entirely on her rather than her counterpart, Jason, which is certainly something brand new in GTA’s world. As with so many games where a woman character has taken the spotlight by the throat, some male gamers tend to lose their minds in droves, almost spurring each other on about how wrong this concept could be to allow a woman a pinnacle spot in “their” video games, of all places. It’s gross behavior and something that many gaming studios are now trying to combat by placing strong women at the forefront of their titles, even among the angry incel chatter.

GTA 6 Trailer Has Been Turned Into An Hilarious Real-Life Short

When I first watched the GTA 6 trailer, I remember feeling really excited about Lucia’s bold and kickass role as she took center stage but, unfortunately, that lasted about five seconds until I remembered that Rockstar has a past of not doing diversity well. Many of the women seen throughout its franchise are either portrayed as sex workers, a pain in the arse and a nag to men, or just a secondary thought, as Rockstar hammed up the typical stereotypes. However, it wasn’t just women who got the blunt end of the stick throughout GTA’s history, which includes the franchise’s terrible record on outdatedLGBTQ+ representation.

This is what makes Lucia’s journey all the more important in GTA 6 and, if Rockstar can craft her story in the right way without falling into their previous tropes that shows that she too can take on the power-hungry world of crime and be as violent and tactical as the men before her, Lucia could very well be one of the best protagonists to grace our screens, not only in Grand Theft Auto but potentially in the history of gaming - because why not?
