Update:After some negative reactions from God of War fans to what David Jaffe said during his stream, he shared a new tweet clarifying that he has no official knowledge about the target platforms of the upcoming God of War game, and his opinion was just a personal conclusion of him from what Jim Ryan had already said about supporting PS4.
Original Story:Since itsofficial reveallast year, we haven’t heard much aboutGod of War Ragnarok. We don’t even know if the name for the newGod of Warentry would be titledRagnarokor something else. However,David Jaffe, a former Santa Monica developer who has been involved in some of the previousGod of Warprojects as well, believes that the new entry will be a cross-gen title.
During his stream ofGod of War2018, David Jaffe responds to a fan about the target platforms ofGod of War Ragnarokand says that he’s sure that the game will be available on PS4 as well as PS5. Of course, this doesn’t confirm anything as Jaffe has probably nothing to do with the development process of the newGod of Wargame, but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if his opinion turns out to be true.
As Jaffe mentions, Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has already confirmed that they will try to support PS4 for the next few years, at least. Also, with some titles likeMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesandHorizon 2: Forbidden Westcoming to PS4, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise ifGod of War Ragnarokturnsinto a cross-gen titleas well, especially given that it’s slated to launch this year.
Of course, the PS5 version will still offer a better experience with enhanced visuals and DualSense features, but withSpider-Man: Miles Morales, it was somehow confirmed that the graphical gap for PS4 and PS5 games in the case visuals, at least at this point, isn’t too big. It could be judged better if we would be able to get a look at the difference between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Guerrilla Games’Horizon 2: Forbidden West.
The sequel to 2018’sGod of Waris currently in the works at the Santa Monica studio and will probably be launched in the second half of this year.
