Game of Thronesalmost showed a cameo scene of George R.R. Martin, a chance the author decided against. The famed HBO series wrapped up in 2019 after eight installments, but even today, fans are still lamenting its anticlimactic ending.

Martin’s planned appearance on the show won’t change the fact that the story ended most disappointingly, and perhaps it was a good call that he chose not to accept the showrunners’ offer. Not only was it impractical on his part but it also wouldn’t appease the dismay of fans.

David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do, but I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.

Martin resides in New Mexico, and it would be an exhausting journey to fly all the way to Northern Ireland to shoot a few-second cameo. Instead, he stayed at home to work on his upcoming book,The Winds of Winter.

Martin was supposed to be a guest at Khal Drogo and Daenerys’ wedding. When they hiredEmilia Clarketo replace the original actress,Tamzin Merchant, he no longer returned for a cameo.
