In a Warner Bros.internship listing,upcoming games from Warner Bros. Interactive will have a “heavy focus on live service.” For those who don’t know, a game having live service elements means games will be frequently updated with more story content, features, and items.
“WBIE is currently involved in a variety of new projects, ranging from casual games to core games featuring our well-known franchises on all platforms (console, digital, mobile) with a heavy focus on live service,” says the internship description. All of this would provide for a well-rounded experience at an exciting game publishing studio making its mark on the industry."
Warner Bros. Interactive has several games coming now through 2022. This year, WB will release games likeBack 4 Blood,Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, andGotham Knights. As for 2022, they’ll releaseHogwarts LegacyandSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Of those, it’s possible thatBack 4 Bloodwill include some live service elements. It’s primarily a multiplayer game that could lend itself well to continual updates. While it’s unclear what Netherrealm Games is working on, their upcoming games could possibly include live service features since they’ve done similar things before. Their previous games areMortal Kombat 11andInjustice 2.
Gotham KnightsandSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewere announced last August. Both games feature four-player multiplayer but you may also play it solo. More recently,Gotham Knightsdeveloper WB Games Montrealreleased new detailson the game’s co-op. As forSuicide Squad, we haven’t heard new details since its reveal.
Besides DC Comics games, it was recently announced thatLego Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagawill include300 playable characters. Additionally,Hogwarts Legacyhasrecently been delayedfrom summer 2021 to sometime in 2022.
Back 4 Bloodis the main Warner Bros. game with a confirmed release date. It releases on June 18 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagareleases this spring on those consoles plus the Switch.
